Which of these business objectives do you hope to achieve through personal networking?
Increase visibility. Get a raise. Bring in/develop more business. Get a better job. Keep the job you have. Expand your professional horizons. Start your own business. Grow to become an expert or a speaker.
These objectives are all within your reach. The secret is to build the network to support you in attaining them.
Networking is an ongoing complicated process. Networking offers diverse benefits. These include finding partners, avoiding personal and financial disasters, making career changes, resolving conflicts, building businesses, meeting famous people, and more. Entering into a networking relationship with someone can provide many opportunities; however, time is a valuable asset. You must ensure that you use it judiciously when building your network.
Eight defining principles to help you create, cultivate, and reap the benefits of success through personal connections.
1. Its not whom you know but who knows you.
Plan your networking campaign as if YOU were a business. People will not bang down your door if they do not know what you have to offer. Your greatest sales agent is you (and sometimes your mother)! After all, you know the product best. If you dont market yourself, who will? Networking is not just a one-time event. It requires attention, consistency, and continuity.
2. Cultivate your relationships.

4. Protect your network.

As a good networker, your goal should be to identify the need and help your new contact find a solution. Identify at least one thing you can do to follow up with new contacts. Send them a note saying how pleased you are to have met them. Use this follow-up as a way of reconnecting with the person you have just met. Make sure you reconnect within 48 hours.
5. Be prepared with your elevator pitch.

Make one day a week a telephone day, or commit to an hour a day to be on the phone and reconnect with the people important to you. Become recognized as a resource, so that people will want to stay connected to you. A note of caution: state clearly that you are happy to help and hope that the favor can be returned soon. If you dont get a contract or a job, or close a sale, send the person a thank-you note anyway.
TIP: Carry thank-you notes or cards with you so that you can write quick notes after you meet someone.
7. Be generous to others.

In networking, however, the is really To be successful, you need to stay focused on WIIFT-s In It For THEM. Always consider what you can do for others. Pay close attention to the needs, desires, and interest of individuals in your network. Be wary of those that dont reciprocate. There is a fine line between using your network and abusing it.
8. Continuously improve your networking skills.
Networking has been an integral part of being effective and efficient in business and in life. Building, maintaining, and improving your network and your networking skills are keys to success. Identify people to include in your network who excel at networking. Add them to your network and learn from them. What events do they attend? Whom do they know? How do they handle themselves? How do they support others? Keep tuned in to all the professional and career development opportunities out there. You should never be too busy to learn new tricks. Attend functions where you can establish a peer group. Be choosy. Dont just go for the sake of going. Have a clear goal in mind about what you intend to get from your participation and follow up.

A lifelong gambler, Mr. McCain takes risks, both on and off the craps table, according to the New York Times. He was throwing dice one night not long after his failed 2000 presidential bid, in which he was skewered by the Republican Partys evangelical base, opponents of gambling. Their night of good fortune epitomized not just Mr. McCains affection for gambling, but also the close relationship he has built with the gambling industry and its lobbyists during his 25-year career in Congress.
As a two-time chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, Mr. McCain has done more than any other member of Congress to shape the laws governing Americas casinos, helping to transform the once-sleepy Indian gambling business into a $26-billion-a-year behemoth with 423 casinos across the country. He has won praise as a champion of economic development and self-governance on reservations.
One of the founding fathers of Indian gaming is what Steven Light, a University of North Dakota professor and a leading Indian gambling expert, called Mr. McCain.
As factions of the ferociously competitive gambling industry have vied for an edge, they have found it advantageous to cultivate a relationship with Mr. McCain or hire someone who has one, according to an examination based on more than 70 interviews and thousands of pages of documents.
The Indian casinos have not exactly embraced the online gambling sector, however, though McCain has gone on record as saying that prohibition of Internet gambling and online poker is not a priority of his.

The New York Times questions McCains classification as a based on his relationship with the Indian casinos and those lobbyists who represent them.
Mr. McCain portrays himself as a Washington maverick unswayed by special interests, referring recently to lobbyists as birds of prey. Yet in his current campaign, more than 40 fund-raisers and top advisers have lobbied or worked for an array of gambling interests - including tribal and Las Vegas casinos, lottery companies and online poker purveyors.
Mr. McCain declined to be interviewed by the New York Times. In written answers to questions, his campaign staff said he was justifiably proud of his record on regulating Indian gambling. Senator McCain has taken positions on policy issues because he believed they are in the public interest, the campaign said.
Just two weeks ago, Democratic running mate Joe Biden announced that his son would no longer engage in lobbying efforts. Bidens son, Hunter, worked on lobbying efforts for the online poker sector.
Federal lobbying records show that Hunter Biden’s firm was hired in June by lawyers for J. Russell DeLeon and his wife, Ruth Parasol, billionaire expatriates who founded a Web site called PartyPoker, according to a New York Times report. Their company, PartyGaming P.L.C., which later went public in London and was the single largest IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 2004, stopped doing business in the United States after President Bush signed a bill into law in 2006 aimed at curbing online gambling.
Wyeth Wiedeman, a lobbyist hired by Mr. DeLeon and Ms. Parasol, said Mr. Biden helped put together a lobbying campaign to persuade Congress to pass a law that would clarify the question about whether online gambling was legal prior to 2006. Mr. Wiedeman said the Justice Department has been examining the couple and others involved with the PartyPoker site.
PartyPoker was forced out of the US market thanks to Jon Kyls co-authored UIGEA. At the time, 80 percent of Partys customers were originating from the US. And in an ironic twist, one time Iowa Republican Congressman and another co-author of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act, Jim Leach, is now vocally endorsing Democratic Senator Barack Obama for President.

Riding in an airboat is truly exhilarating. The highlight of our first ride was when the captain shot straight over a bank and then did a 360 degree turn without any warning. The whole experience was a bit like riding a rollercoaster but without all the ups and downs.
Once you are out in the wetlands you should get the opportunity to see a wide range of Florida wildlife in their natural habitat; anything from soft-shelled turtles, bald eagles, numerous water birds such as blue herons, cranes, egrets and anhinga and of course alligators.
Your best chances of seeing an alligator is on one of the night time airboat rides when their eyes are picked up in the light of torches shone into the darkness. Because alligators are cold blooded, they take a while to get going in the mornings particularly during the winter months so you are generally more likely to see them during the afternoons than first thing in the morning.
Most airboat companies require a reservation but some of the larger companies operate every 30 minutes throughout the day and you can often just turn up and ride. If you are planning a night trip then you definitely need to book in advance.
Types of Florida airboats
There are really two types of Florida airboat ride, the traditional style small airboats that hold a handful of people, typically up to 6 passengers and the large barge type airboats built specifically for airboat rides that can take as many as 18 to 20 passengers at a time. Both are fun to ride in but the smaller boats are more manoeuvrable and somehow you just feel more in touch with your surroundings in the traditional style airboats.
In some places you can even rent an airboat and drive it yourself though naturally they are not as fast as the real airboats.
Typical Florida airboat ride prices
Tours can range from 30 minutes up to several hours. Expect to pay around $20 for a 30 minute trip, $30-$40 for a one hour trip and $40-$60 for 90 minute trip. Children (3-12 years old) generally pay about half the adult rate and under 2s go free.
Self drive rental airboats cost about $30 per hour.

At any rate, I had my follicles trimmed at the barber shop I always use. Its close to my office, the cuts are quick, and theyre dead cheap thirteen bucks a head. You dont beat that kind of price. If you can get a haircut for under twenty bucks and walk away with both ears still attached, then youve found yourself a bargain, compadre.
Of course, the downside to this is that the English spoken by the barbers there is not so bueno. They simply dont have the firm grasp of English that youd like to see in a person standing over you with a pair of sharp scissors, asking, How jou want eet? Ive had nightmares that start out that way. Many of them involve Antonio Banderas. I sleep with one eye open, as you might imagine.
Anyway, I went to my barber for a cut. Why? Because I never learn. I go there, crossing my little fingers tight, hoping that Ill get the owner, John. John the bilingual barber, I call him. Not while Im in there, of course, but later out of earshot. John really is bilingual when Johns manning the shears, we often have a little chat about the weather, or the neighborhood, the local sports teams, that sort of thing. Its nice to get John.
I didnt get John today. Thats problem number uno.
No, today I got the woman. Shes a very nice lady. But the chica, she dont speak the English so well. And me, I dont hablo the Espanol so much, either. So theres a bit of a communication gap between us. Canyon-sized, as gaps go.
First she asked how I wanted it cut. I told her not thinking to keep things clear and unambiguous to cut it sort of short; not really short but still pretty short. She interpreted this as not even remotely short, apparently, and proceeded to snip a few scant millimeters from the tip of each hair. It was impressive, really. The concentration. The dedication. In one sense, it was truly a barbering minimalist masterpiece.
In all of the other senses, though, it wasnt even remotely what I wanted.
Normally, Id just take my lumps and let it go. Those folks try hard, and theyre really cheap, and for thirteen bucks, I should be happy they dont use a rusty scimitar. And a blindfold. And Antonio Banderas.
This time, though, I felt I had to speak up. I didnt look significantly different than when Id walked in. And I sort of look for that in a haircut. The appearance of my head should change somewhat by the time theyve finished. Preferably without bleeding.
So I tried to negotiate with her, but again put my Spanish and her English together, and youve got six words, some leftover Rs and silent Js, and a hell of a lot of hand-waving. Our went something like this:
Me: Um, see how my hair is wavy there on top?
Her: Shorter in the back?
Me: No, no well, actually, yes, but thats not what I meant. My hairs long and wavy, and
Her: I cut the hair for you. In the back?
Me: Er, no. Here, on the top.
Her: On the top? Cut the top?
Me: Yes, please.
Her: Okay, I use these scissors here.
At that point, she brought out an odd, scary-looking pair of scissors. Im pretty sure they were featured prominently in the movie Saw, as a matter of fact. One side looked like a jagged metal comb, while the other resembled a tapered bayonet of some kind, possibly with viscera from the last still hanging on.
Id seen similar instruments of hair torture before; someone once explained that they make hair less thick. Which might mean less wavy. And me gusta less wavy. Ole!
So I thought that maybe shed gotten my jist after all, and understood. I had another go at talking with her, trying to get info to use for next time.
Me: So, what are those called? Do they have a special name?
Her: Yes, these are very nice.
Me: No I mean, yes, theyre nice. But what do you call them?
Her: Its two thirty, about.
Me: Oh, um, thanks. But I meant the shears youre using.
Her: Yes, theyre very nice.
Me: Yes. Nice. All righty, then.
She took off another couple of millimeters with the mystery shears. And my hair looked marginally less wavy as opposed to completely less wavy, which is what I was really after. Along with noticeably shorter. But by then, my will was sapped. I barely even put up a fight when she said:
Her: Is good, now? You like?
Me: Um, sure. Not bad.
Her: Thats right you dont like it short. I remember. You dont like that.
Me: Well, it could be shorter, a bit, really. I just
Her: Thats right you dont like it short. Dont worry, I know what you like.
Me: Yes, but its just
Her: Its okay. No short for you. I no let anyone cut your hair short here. I take care of you.
I didnt know what to say. Well, actually, I knew exactly what to say; I just didnt know how to say it, in Spanish, so shed understand it. So I got up and paid her, and thanked her, and walked back outside with four wavy pounds of long hair on my head. And all because I coasted through Spanish class in high school, and Im too lazy to find another barber.
Damn. Somehow, when I put it that way, it almost sounds like my fault.

I think this staking plan is a stroke of sheer genius, it improves greatly on level stakes betting and if you use the included selection system and spreadsheets you will find it difficult to lose money.
The only downside I can see from this system is the length of time between suitable selections. While testing the system I once had to wait 9 days from one bet to another, although I have used other sports to supplement the horse racing ones, such as tennis, baseball and football. You could of course use your own selection method if you feel the need to have more frequent bets.
Also included are a few greyhound systems but I have not tested them so I don’t know how they perform.
All in all, an excellent system, full of good advice. I have no hesitation in recommending My Mathematical Formula for those with patience.
