It sucked, we got thrashed, the end. Okay okay Ill go into a bit more detail. Plane arrived in Syndey with no hassles and I met up with Hui at the airport. Rohan had driven up from Sydney and parked in a long term car park that was a couple of kms away so we caught a cab to pick him up and then go to the hotel, which was pretty close to the airport itself. Once we were checked in we pretty dumped our bags in the room and headed to the train station to go to the game.
We got there without any hassles and had a bite to eat before heading into the ground. Rohan was excited because his team (the Canberra Raiders) were playing in the Toyota Cup Grand Final, which was being played before the main game. We got there in time to catch much of the second half. The game ended in a draw and it went to extra time and Rohan was on the edge of his seat. After an eternity of overtime the Raiders scored a try to break the deadlock and win the game.
The pre-match entertainment was pretty uneventful and the game finally got underway after a long day of anticipation. I wasnt all that confident going into the game and even early in the game I knew it just wasnt going to be the Storms day. When the Storm went into the halftime break 8-0 I was glad that Manly had missed both their shots at goal and we were still in the game, but I knew things would have to change drastically for the Storm to turn things around. The kicking game without Cameron Smith was a real weakness, we really let ourselves down with some of the finishes of sets of six.
The second half of the game is pretty much a blur, think I just totally tuned out after Manly scored the first try. Once the game was gone the Storm just seem to lose all hope and collapse, which was disappointing, but it doesnt really matter if you lose by 2 pts or 40, you still lose a Grand Final. In some ways its better to lose in that manner than to lose in a really tight contest where your emotions get toyed with. Congratulations to Manly, they were the better side and the Storm just werent in form at the right time of year while Manly peaked when it mattered.
The disappointment of the game was washed away quickly as we got out of Homebush and headed into the city for dinner. Hui took us to a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. The service was pretty bad, but it gave us more time to reminisce about our Vegas trip earlier this year and plan our next potential adventure to Macau. Recently retired Melbourne Lord Mayor John So was sitting at the table behind us and as we walked out he commiserated with me on the Storms loss.
I didnt get much sleep as Rohan and I stayed up watching poker training videos, talking about strategy and concepts and just life in general. I got up early and caught my flight back to Melbourne. On the way home from the airport my car started making some strange noises, so I might have a problem there.
To make a dismal weekend worse when I got home the hotel I stayed at last night called. It turns out Id stayed at the wrong place! I booked through Wotif and printed out my paperwork thinking I was staying at one hotel, turns out I had it completely wrong. The funny thing is the hotel checked me in no problems at all. The funny side ends there though because now the hotel I stayed out has charged me and I cant get a refund for the other one it seems. It is a public holiday in Sydney today so everyone who I need to complain to isnt available so I really cant get anything sorted.

C. M. Coolidge, known for his poker playing dogs, was a brilliant man with innovative ideas and an entrepreneurial instinct about art. Born in a small town in upstate New York to Quaker parents, he didnt receive a formal college education, but did take some college business classes later in his life. By the time he was 18 or 19, he took a few lessons in portrait painting, along with a course in bookkeeping a few years later. His love for reading resulted in a solid self education. At the age of 19, he started doing cartoons for newspapers in surrounding neighborhoods. A few years later, while living in Rochester, NY, he wrote and illustrated a weekly newspaper column.
Coolidge loved people and was quite social. At around the age of 20 or 21, he was elected Superintendent for one of the local school districts. Later, he was elected Town Clerk. Around the same time, he became active in the Masonic Lodge. Coolidge had lofty plans for himself, although most of his pursuits didnt work out or were short-lived. When he was 27 or 28, he started the first bank in the town of Antwerp, NY. He worked there for a short time, and then became a druggist. That; however; did not hold his interest for long. And, a year later he founded his hometowns first newspaper. Unfortunately, that failed a short time later.
Between jobs and in his free time, he would draw cartoons for area newspapers and would do caricatures of people. One of his many elaborate projects was the writing of a comic opera concerning the elimination of mosquitoes. Interestingly, it was produced but made no real money. He also applied for a patent for collecting fares on street cars. Although, again, nothing became of it.
The one consistent endeavor he held onto was his love of comics and art. He began to do dog paintings around the turn of the century. Mainly, they were purchased by cigar companies and used as giveaways. Coolidges big break came when the advertising firm Brown Bigelow approached him to do a series of paintings that would be used on calendars and other memorabilia. That was in 1903. Around this time is when his infamous poker dog paintings got underway.
Over the next ten years, Coolidge created 16 paintings of dogs seven that portrayed dogs playing pool. The other nine were dogs surrounding a poker table. By putting dogs in art, yet in a situation familiar to middle class Americans, he not only anthropomorphized them, but created an instant kitsch fad. It certainly helped the cigar and calendar businesses for which he worked. A few of his original dog paintings sold for US$2,000 to US$10,000 dollars an astonishing amount for the time period.
For years his images of dogs playing poker while drinking, smoking, and basically getting into trouble graced bachelor pads, bars, and taverns around the country. The scenes always evoked feelings of something American and something modern. Recently, a pair of his poker dog paintings entitled A Bold Bluff and Waterloo, expected to go for US$30,000 to US$60,000, surprised the art world by selling for $590,00 for the pair.
More meaning for A Friend In Need:
A few theories about his art give more meaning than what initially meets the eye. One theory states that the painting A Friend In Need has great significance. s painting was used in the Second World War to boost the moral of Dutch citizens. The dog with the cigar being Churchill giving America help (on his left hand side), which goes unnoticed. Russia (the most left dog) tries to attract USAs attention, while Hitler (the dog with the pipe and the big ears in front of the clock) watches anxiously.(1)
Poker enthusiast Jim McManus has stated, [In] A Friend in Need, the blatant cheating refers back to the early nineteenth century, Mississippi riverboat days, when poker was mainly a series of opportunities to fleece the suckers.
A specialist for Sothebys Auction House, Alison Cooney, says that people who dismiss the painting as simply kitsch art are missing the deeper meaning of his work. s a humorous, ironic take; she continues, a jab at middle-class America; another way of poking fun at ourselves.(2)
Another theory suggests that the dogs were all aspects of C.M. Coolidge himself. Known to his friends as , he loved a good bet and was something of a hustler.(3) He wore a hat and often held a cigar, just as his paintings of dogs did. Other sources hint that he looked like the bulldogs he painted.
In a recent tongue-in-cheek article by Steven J. Rolfes, he writes In this iconic work, we see a masterly representation of the Last Supper, with Christ (on the left) sitting conveying His wisdom to His followers. We see Judas to His right, with the bag of silver coins at his pawside. He asserts that the painting A Friend in Need has deep arcane roots in a very secret society that even precedes the Illuminati called the Prior of Dogbone.(4) This important insight is one that Coolidge himself would appreciate.
After his success with painting dogs, a new idea provided him a profitable income. He started the invention of Comic Foregrounds, which are wooden life-size cartoon stand-ups with the face cut out so that one can place their head for funny photos. He completed hundreds of them, including the famous Man Riding a Donkey and Fat Man in a Bathing Suit. Some of these comic foregrounds had hand lettering at the bottom. He would often hire students to do them.
C.M. Coolidge was a bachelor for most of his life. When he was 64, he met Gertrude Kimmel, an art student who was doing some lettering work for him at the time. They were married in 1909 and had a daughter a year later.
A few years later, when Coolidge was about 70 years old, he fell and hurt his knee. According to an account written by his daughter Marcella Coolidge, he didnt visit a doctor and was lame the rest of his life.(5) He tried his hand at writing, but it didnt take off. Still, Coolidge remained in good spirits. His wife went to work and he was strong enough to do work around the house.
Coolidges daughter has also said that his dog paintings were not taken seriously at home by herself or her mother. She said that she never liked them that it was simply commercial. Furthermore, she relayed that they never had a dog, but that her dad was fond of them.(6) This is clear as seen in the widespread influence they had in his art.
Andy Warhol was influenced by Coolidges work. Coolidge set a precedent for the weimaraner photos of William Wegman. Today, we find Coolidges canine images on posters everywhere. If you have US$590,000 or more to spend, contact Doyle Auction House in New York to see when they will have another original Coolidge dog painting to auction.

On Poker and The breath of one's nostrils

One of the books that has most affected my everyday life might surprise a few people. About four years ago, I existed as a young nerd with a minor obsession for games, and I don't mean video games or sports. No, I was infatuated with gambling and specifically with poker. I consumed everything I could get my hands on about poker theory and strategy, and in this period, as I wandered into a Borders bookstore, I picked up David Sklansky's The Theory of Poker.

David Skalnsky is the son of a mathematics professor and a professional poker player, and is rather popularly known at least in the world of poker. In his book, Sklansky puts forth his theory: one is playing perfect poker if every move that they make is the exact same as it would be if they could see the other person's cards, or in other words, if they had perfect information. I feel like this has thousands of applications, both to economics and to life. Every time you are confronted with a decision, you don't have perfect information. Specifically, you don't know the exact outcome of this decision, all the other possible alternatives, etc. However, what one should aim to do is to maximize the utility of this desicion by making it as close as possible to the decision you would have made, had you had perfect information.

One other concept Sklansky talks about in his books is the law of large numbers and how it relates to gambling. He uses the example of betting with a friend over a coin flip. Each fo you chooses heads of tails, and each time one wins, the other pays him a dollar. According to Sklansky and the law of large numbers, in the end you will break even on this game, and it is actually not worth your time to play. If however, your friend stupidly agrees to pay you two dollars each time you win while you only pay him one, then this game actually becomes theoretically profitable. According to the law of large numbers, in the long run you will make $0.50 every flip of the coin. And so, even if small fluctuation in chance cause you to lose actual money, if you stick to games that are theoretically profitable, you will make money in the long run.

So, it is important to know that in life you should actually be thinking in terms of theoretical winnings. Even if you take a risk in which you theoretically win and you actually lose, you shouldn't become risk averse from now on; you made the right decision. And, I believe, if you stick to risks in which you have a mathematical advantage and you avoid those in which you have a disadvantage, over the course of your life, you will be better off than those that had avoided these types of gambles all along. So go forth, bet the farm on the roll of some dice if you think you knwo you have the advantage. It's the mathematically correct thing to do.

Topic: Beginner/Small Stakes NLHE / AK question
I've just been doing a little looking at the whole notion of stacking off preflop and I've concluded that I'm not doing enough.

I've been stacking off with AA, KK in any situation, AK where I'm the one to put in the fourth bet and sometimes QQ or JJ when the villain three bets a bunch.

I just convinced myself that's too tight if we assume 100 big blind stacks.

A three bet percentage of 5% translates to 99+, AJs+, KQs, AKo according to pokerstove. Against this range, QQ has 57.5% equity and JJ has 49.5% equity. AK has 47% equity.

If they never get it all in with less than KK+, AKs, AKo that's only 2% of hands and QQ and JJ both have about 40% equity and AK has a little less.

So if you raise to 4x and they raise to 12x and you put in the fourth bet to say 30 and they push you're calling 70 to win 200. You're going to be behind a lot but you only need 35% equity to break even and everything JJ+, AKs, AKo has that. And that's assuming they don't get it in with less than AK, KK when the reality is that many people get it in with less than that.

I have a question though...in HEM, how is the four bet stat calculated? Over in the reports section, I see a four bet range and a raise % v three bets. What's the difference? And over in the HUD manager I just see Four Bet. What's what.

Reraising Preflop
There are three main reasons for adopting a more aggressive reraising strategy to effectively combat the stealer. Reraising punishes the stealer, sets up profitable postflop play, and establishes variation.
1. Punish the opposition.
Im not the first person to suggest reraising to slow down your opponent on future action. In fact, Sklansky and Malmuth make it apparent that it is critical for your opponent to worry that a raise will cost more than it appears. As they say, He needs to know that hes in jeapordy of a reraise. Thus you frequently reraise for the sake of future hands, not the hand that you are holding.
But is reraising 10% of your hands enough? 10% represents the cream of the crop: AA-99 (6 possible combinations each), AK-AT(16 combinations each), KQ(16), KJs(4), KTs(4), QJs(4), JTs(4). These hands are so dominating that many of them would be 3-bet in a full ring game. Versus a steal raise, the selection is too thin.
More importantly, reraising 10% of the time will likely not even affect a blind stealing opponent who is raising 100% of the time preflop. Out of 10 hands, the stealer will immediately win the blinds 6 times, play on the flop against an out of position caller 3 times, and face a reraise only once. In this situation, even against a reraise, it becomes pretty easy for the small blind to fold if the flop doesnt hit him hard, since he knows he is competing against a premium hand.
2. Set up Flop play.
If youre going to be in the hand to the end, you might as well get the money in early. Im not sure where I read or heard the above advice, but it makes a lot of sense. With a powerful hand, you want to put pressure your opponent and make him pay for the right to outdraw you. You want to earn the most money possible, and fundamentally, you want to get your money in while you are ahead. (This is an oversimplification, but it works for shorthanded play due to a concept called .)
Mason Malmuth wrote about shorthanded play in Poker Essays, a good book for advanced players to hone specific theories. Concept No. 3: Be prepared to go to the river. Basically, if your hand is strong and unless the board develops in a very scary manner, you will often want to showdown. Since you will be going to the river with many hands, you should get the money in early, which makes a showdown strategy more likely to be correct and profitable in the long run.
A second factor is initiative. I mentioned above that most preflop stealers will not be affected by reraises, especially those raising 100% of the time preflop. In my experience, most opponents simply fold if the flop didnt hit their hand since they expect to be against a monster hand. Even those who do not habitually steal raise will still respect an opponent who reraised preflop. In other words, if you are the big blind and raise with a hand like JTs, you should virtually always bet on the flop, even if the flop misses entirely. Putting the pressure back on your opponent is critical. Opponents may simply concede on the flop, expecting to be against a very powerful hand and not wishing to pay a turn and river bet to see a showdown.
3. Establish variation.
The third reason to increase aggression preflop and reraise with a wider selection of hands addresses the predictability of the play. 10% narrows the possible hands considerably, and it creates an undeniable problem if the flop arrives with 3 rags. Under Sklansky and Malmuths advice, you would be reraising with big cards 3 out of 4 times; this is simply too predictable against even average competition.
So, what is appropriate for a reraise preflop from the big blind? What if we added 88-66(6 combinations each), KJo(12), KTo(12), QJo(12), QT(16), A9s-A2s(4 combinations each), T9s(4), and 98s(4)? The total is an additional 110 hands, which progresses the amount of reraising hands to 18.25% of total hands. Notice that most of these hands can be taken to a showdown, yet they create enough variation to make any flop potentially dangerous for your adversary.

Watching the opposition
An aggressive counterstrategy is only part of the equation. You will still be calling with other hands. You will still need to vary your play to keep your opponent off your scent. I recommend slowplaying AA or KK sometimes, reraising with lesser holdings on occasion, and following up with occasionally unpredictable flop play. Keep them guessing. Meanwhile, watch your opposition. Preflop, you will adjust your standards in the same direction as your opponent. If the small blind stops raising half the time, you should not call as often, since you will too often be playing bad cards with bad position, a costly combination. Reraising is still valuable but should be reduced as well. You want to slow down against an opponent who raises only with legitimate hands.
In addition, you must consider the postflop play of your opponent. If the opponent plays very well with position: earning extra bets, staying aggressive, and following a solid bluffing strategy, then he will earn a significant advantage each hand played on the flop. With your higher postflop burden, you must adjust by folding more preflop. Against an expert, you will fold quite often (and therefore call less than Sklansky and Malmuths recommended strategy). The important thing to note is that you will be losing money by folding the big blind more often. Repeat: YOU WILL BE VOLUNTARILY LOSING!!!! But you will lose less money folding than playing marginal hands that cost extra bets after the flop. Sometimes (often) you cannot win in the big blind of a heads-up matchup; your best choice is simply to minimize losses. Dont worry; youll make your profits when you are in position and have the advantage.
Slow em Down
Finally, a good preflop game will complement the overall strategy. Getting the money in early with the best hand will help to mitigate your positional disadvantage to some degree. But the best reason to stay aggressive may be intimidation. If you can scare your opponent into slowing down, you will begin to win the blinds for free, and you will not be forced to play at a disadvantage so often. In other words, you want your opponent to stop raising your blinds. So snarl (metaphorically) and attack back! Until next time, good luck.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: The Persistent Irritation is pleased to welcome guest blogger Jeff H.]

It’s Friday night. I'm knee deep in an end game against Pedro S., a good, aggressive heads up player. In the big blind, I have Q9 offsuit, a stronger than average hand. Pedro only completes the SB, which looks weak, so I raise three times the BB. He comes back over the top and I suddenly have the sinking feeling that he is slow playing a monster. I either have to commit all my chips or fold.
How would you play it?
After hours of grueling tournament play, going heads up in the finale can be both the most important and confusing part of the game. The difference between 1st and 2nd is often a factor of two in the payoff, so half of your winnings depend on good heads up play. Yet by the time you get to heads up you are tired, you may have a few beers under your belt, and the patience that got you to this point may be waning. It can be hard to know what to do.
Luckily, there is a mathematical solution to help you out. It goes by the name of SAGE (Sit and Go Endgame), the main elements of which are simple enough to memorize or put on a 3x5 card.

From the book The Crack in The Cosmic Egg: Guru Guru Formed in Zurich in summer 1968 by former Irene Schweizer trio musicians: Mani Neumeier (drums) and Uli Trepte (bass) as Guru Guru Groove. the history is abridged here, but they were quick to develop an original music from their free-jazz roots, moving on and developing a new type of psychedelic rock music. Ex Agitation Free Ax Genrich joined a guitarist who could do unbelievable things with his instrument - he could even make it talk! Instantly Guru Guru were one of the hottest bands on the scene and were promptly signed by Ohr Records, making the extraordinary free-form rock album UFO. This proved to be amongst the ultimate musical acid-trips, with greatly condensed versions of music thrashed out in concert jams. Titles like "Stone In" and "Der LSD-Marsh" instantly tell us where they were at! With rattling drums, scuttling, shuddering bass, and a swamp full of guitars, with vocals used mainly for effect, incredible through and through, right down to the ultimate space-trip, "UFO" itself! With the same line-up, the subsequent two albums saw a refinement of style, with composition replacing free-form jamming. Not wanting to yield to the pressure of trying to make it big in a rock band, Uli decided he should try to go it alone. So, now came the start of a regular succession of personnel changes, firstly with bassist Bruno Schaab (previously of Night Sun) filling in on the eponymous fourth album. Another change of label, another bassist (the much travelled jazzer Hans Hartmann), relocating to Heidelberg, and again a change of direction. DON'T CALL US would seem to be very much Ax Genrich's show, with a totally outrageous blend of styles, there's a bit of "Hari Krishna" and much silliness. Eiliff's Houschäng Nejadepour stepped into Ax Genrich's place, turning Guru Guru into a mini fire-breathing Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the unbelievably hot and energetic DANCE OF THE FLAMES. Barely existing long enough to make the album, Conny Veit (from Gila) had joined the band before the album's release. For over a year and a half Guru Guru was shelved as Mani worked on other projects (check the Mani Neumeier section for more on this) though eventually a new band was grouped featuring a reliable side-kick in ex-Brainstorm multi-instrumentalist Roland Schaeffer. This new Guru Guru would create an offbeat blend of jazz, rock, psychedelia and mad-cap cabaret, and debuted with the schizophrenic TANGO FANGO. Live they would perform a selection of new and classic old works like "Der Elektrolurch", as featured on the double live album. Attempting to create a new image, credited to "Guru Guru Sunband", HEY DU! saw Mani becoming lead singer of a Guru Guru that showed hardly any of the innovation of early incarnations (note that the rest of the band worked without Mani as the vastly different experimental band Hausmusik) and eventually again, after the dreadful MANI IN GERMANI, Guru Guru disintegrated. Later 80's reformation attempts were of little interest, some were in fact horrendous attempts to break Guru Guru as a pop band! As a trial commenced nowadays in the forfeiture portion of a date suit about the seizure by Kentucky officials of 141 Internet domains tied to online gambling, the Poker Players Alliance filed an amicus brief "amicus curiae" import "alone of the date" detailing compound points as to why the date-planned seizure spearheaded by Kentucky chief Steve Beshear should not stomach.

The PPA's brief highlights some areas, plus poker as a willing of knack (knack-based willings are not gambling under Kentucky law) and First Amendment issues about frankness of information. These are in addition to issues estimated to be raised by the domain holders themselves about the life and

manor

rights of released trade over an international middle.

The filing of the brief comes as at slightest one hole reported pre-trial meeting between the sides described as "negotiations". Other rumor budding in the last 24 hours have quoted Kentucky confusion officials as adage the endorsed firms running on the confusion's behalf have full the suit on a contingency root, and will be rewarded only if they are able to drag some pecuniary payment from the sites whose domains were technically detained, still in almost all suits not crooked over, under the Franklin district date order.

The fulfilled announcement of the brief as filed by the PPA follows:

WASHINGTON, DC. (September 26, 2008) The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the important poker grassroots backing group with more than one million members nationwide, nowadays submitted an amicus brief to the Franklin tour encourage in Kentucky about the confusion's suit ordering a seizure of domain names of 141 online gambling websites. The PPA contends that poker, plus online poker, is actually endorsed under Kentucky confusion law and is a willing of knack, not venture. As such, the root for the confusion's seizure of poker-only website domain names is unfounded.

"The actions by the confusion of Kentucky are not only fanatical, but groundless in that it can be visibly proven that poker is actually a willing of knack and not venture and thus poker Web sites should not be part of the confusion's action," said John Pappas, executive chief of the PPA. "The amicus brief filed on behalf of the PPA nowadays proves this."

Key points of the amicus brief embrace:

broad explore citing authority belief that poker is actually a willing of knack;

References to academic, betting and artificial intelligence authoritys citing the actuality that knack is an important amount to endearing at poker, be it against a creature or a notebook;

Unequivocal consensus among authoritys that in the long run a knacked poker player will beat an unknacked poker player;

Kentucky confusion law asserts that "a contest or willing in which eligibility to participate is determined by venture and the best winner is determined by knack shall not be considered gambling";

Under Kentucky law, poker is a endorsed willing of knack because the actualitys can clearly sustain a result that knack of the player predominates over venture in determining outcome;

The present suit provides no prove to insinuate that any of the poker willings played on any of the 141 websites in problem are based on venture as disparate to knack;

luggage in other confusions as well as a national Communications Commission (FCC) letter verify that knack is the dominant actualityor in the willing of poker; and

The suit raises First Amendment released lecture issues in restricting residents' access to poker websites that surround newscast, blogs and forums as well as the ability to play poker.

The amicus brief concludes that given the confusion's require of prove that poker as played on any of the websites in problem is not a allowed willing of knack under Kentucky law, that there is "no reasonable venture of winner on the underlying state of ilendorsedity that would confirm itsroot for forfeiture of the domain names."

In addition to filing the amicus brief, PPA has conducted a enormous grassroots drive to support the over 13,000 online poker players in the confusion of Kentucky. PPA members have flooded the offices of chief Steve Beshear and native selected officials with thousands of mail, emails and receiver calls expressing their outrage over this suit and urging them to identify poker as a willing of knack and keep their rights to play poker online.

"Poker players in Kentucky are not winning the actions of chief Beshear and the date lightly. They are outraged and rightly so and will preach their attention awaiting this unfounded assault on their franknesss is bunged," sustained Pappas.

Musings on Poker Education by deathdonkey.com
“I taught you everything you know, but not everything I know”. We as poker educators struggle to prove this oft quoted statement of superiority is not necessarily true in our field. However, I recently read Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, which argues that not only is this quotation accurate, it is an inescapable truth of any skillful activity. In Blink an example of a renowned baseball hitter is used, in which the hitter offers his perspective on what makes him so successful. There’s only one problem: upon analyzing this hitter’s swing, his proffered explanation is not only insufficient, its flat out wrong! The truth is, he is an expert at hitting a baseball, but his subconscious mind shoulders the workload, leaving his conscious mind to try to come up with an explanation for how the whole operation works, and it cannot be done. Indeed, Gladwell argues that any expert in a field that requires some “artistic” ability performs the activity largely subconsciously. This leaves us with an interesting and perhaps disturbing question: if this is true for poker players, how can we ever really teach the game?
Before attempting to offer a solution, I think the problem Blink highlights is clearly already known within the poker education world, but perhaps not explicitly realized. Coming from the perspective of an experienced player, I know I am often frustrated or disappointed when watching a well-regarded poker player’s attempt to impart his wisdom through the video medium. After reading Blink I now realize it may not be a lack of communication skills, nor is it likely the coach is just not as talented as expected; the reality is he may simply be incapable of offering a valid explanation for correct plays his mind subconsciously makes. This is not a problem when teaching basic poker concepts, deeply rooted in theory that can be “proven” to be correct. It manifests itself only when an instructor attempts to delve into the subjective art that is higher stakes poker strategy. Not only will you frequently hear “it depends” but now we know it may depend on factors our expert player cannot put into words but intuitively understands.
If we accept that we may not be able to consciously defend our brain’s actions when making unorthodox plays or ones that fall into the gray area between clearly correct and clearly awful, we as poker coaches must attempt to orient the student to all the factors we process at the conscious and subconscious level. It is therefore imperative that the student hones his own “feel” for the game through repeated experience, which can never be hastened or replaced with poker coaching. We should strive to teach the fundamentals of the game that are rooted in mathematics and poker theory, and then once ready to attack the artistic side of complex strategy, have a clear plan for analyzing the environment in which we make those plays. As an example, I no longer use a statistical HUD when playing, preferring to allow my subconscious to pay attention to the playing styles, current mood, and recent relevant history between myself and the other players in the game. When making lower stakes poker videos, I will continue to use the HUD as a way to analyze and evaluate plays that are “clear”, but when I delve into higher stakes videos, I will attempt to play the session under the same conditions I ideally work in, and discuss what factors I am paying explicit attention to, with the hope that the viewer can subconsciously process the same information I am privy to but cannot necessarily vocalize. Finally, I believe it will be better to add audio commentary after the session ends, even if it results in a struggle to honestly explain the reasoning behind certain plays, or an inclination to attempt to defend plays that may appear or may just be incorrect in retrospection. I think this will allow us as teachers to make the plays that we intuitively believe to be correct without the burden of having to justify them in the spur-of-the-moment. The beauty of recording videos as a poker education medium is that we can capture the brilliance of our coaches’ subconscious even if we cannot always explain its method.

The Internet has got it all! From information to writetainment contented to affair and purchases of commodities, be it critical and elite army and food, name it, it can be found in the virtual world.

The most general license sport in the world, poker, can now be played through the Internet. therefore, we have what we call online poker.

Online poker is poker or license sport played with notebooks linked to the Internet. It is unsaid that online poker has spread, and dramatically in that sensation, improved the generality of poker worldwide.

orders background on poker

To better understand the features of online poker, it would help if you will know something about the license sports background and annals.

Poker is a category or class of license sport referred to as vying sport, where players shot to outpace or beat each other by advent out with the best likely combinations of licenses.

Historians dispute about the genuine source of poker. Linguistic scholars aver that the name poker factually descended from poque, a French word which in become came from a German word pochen, which means to crack.

But looking densely at the workings of poker, scholars say the license sport should have been resulting from the as nas sport in old Persia (now Iran). Studies insinuate that the Persian sailors in the 17th century had qualified the sport to French settlers in the US chaos of New Orleans.

From then on, a lot of modifications in the workings and way of live have been introduced. It would be careful to assert that like humanity, poker has evolved and online poker is just one form of evolution the sport has full over the decades.

Online poker vs. brick and mortar poker

Traditional of conventional venues for live poker are also, and more generally, known in the betting jargon as brick and mortar. Some players regularly play timid to play poker at the brick and mortar venues like nightclubs and poker quarters due to intimidation an geographic troubles.

some brick and mortar venues and operators are also initial to lift away because of cheap and token profit they can breed from the operations. You must sensation, how could this transpire when they rush so greatly for commissions or hunt. For your information, those rushs and fees do not commonly offset the overheads in operation or working an actual poker window.

Brick and mortar venues and nightclubs strategically outlive today from revenue breedd by slot equipment in their houses.

Online poker, in differ, are now more favorite by poker organizers because the sport entails cheaper overhead overheads. For case, adding one more online poker shelve will not take long and will not entail more window, different in brick and mortar.

Players regularly observe online poker as friendlier and more stretchy. Ecah player is prompted by a software when it is already his or her become to bewilder licenses. therefore, no one will be missed. Online poker is also more attractive for beginners because they can be permitted to play online poker even for greatly worse stakes, which can be as low as a separate cent!

Most of the online poker sites almost forever do not amass entry or registration fees. Can you write a poker window or nightclub lacking paying entry rushs? sweet economical and workable, huh?

Protection in online poker venues

Cheaters are everywhere and they will forever shot to do their affair in all the accessible venues and meapersuadeds. therefore, the online poker venues are appealing exciting and attractive sights and sites for them, too.

However, to stop fraud and agreement among online poker players, Internet sites and affaires that run these sites regularly mount defiant-agreement detection software and programs. This could not be likely in the brick and mortar nightclubs and poker quarters.

How does it work? Online poker operators or quarters do delay an online players Internet protocol (IP) address to make persuaded no two players are located at the same site or household. That would stop overlap. Players with open alternate servers are also stoped from live online poker on a separate or same poker shelve.

Online poker quarters also delay on an online players policy or play annals. This would make patterns of deeds or opinion detecshelve than in brick and mortar venues, where some players conspire by folding hands or having mystery signal languages.

therefore, it is recommendable that if you are where far from any known poker window or nightclub, log on to the Internet. A lot of sites present online poker sports, and you can desire whether you would want to play against genuine-time players located where in the ball or against notebook programs. The last would be a genuine challenge.

Short Handed Poker: Defending the Blinds

The Speculation of Poker
