Indiana Jones may have sought the Crystal Skull, but for college football teams, the real quest is for the Crystal Trophy, which began Sept. 29.
To celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release of Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull on Oct. 14, ESPN, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Entertainment have created a contest that brings together those two coveted crystal treasures.
Beginning Sept. 29, fans can go to ESPN.com and search for keyword Indiana Jones in order to view videos of seven university marching bands, representing some of the best college football programs in the country. Each performs the iconic Indiana Jones theme, The Raiders March by John Williams. The band with the best performance, as determined by online fan voting, will receive $25k for their schools band program, from Lucasfilm Ltd and Paramount Home Entertainment.
The seven participating schools are: the University of Southern California, the University of Georgia, the University of Florida, the University of Texas, Clemson University, Louisiana State University and Auburn University. ESPN crews filmed the bands during the past several weeks and each band was encouraged to showcase its unique personality during the performance.
Five of the performances will be highlighted on air beginning Oct. 6, during ESPNs College Football Live program. The winner will be revealed during ESPNs College GameDay Built by The Home Depot on Sat., Oct. 11.
For each vote submitted, fans will be entered to win a grand prize trip to an ESPN-televised Bowl Game or one of 25 copies of the quintessential Indiana Jones DVD box set, The Complete Adventure Collection, personally signed by Harrison Ford. Fans may vote for their favorite band once per day.
Rob Temple, vice president of ESPN's Sports Management group said, College football is synonymous with ESPN, and the Indiana Jones theme song is synonymous with action and adventure. This was a unique way to engage our college football audience, while celebrating the unsung heroes of football Saturdays - the university marching bands.
Directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Frank Marshall, with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy as executive producers, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the newest adventure in the phenomenally successful INDIANA JONES series, which has earned six Academy Awards and over $2 billion worldwide.
Released by Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Entertainment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be available as a two-disc Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray on October 14 loaded with spectacular bonus features that allow viewers to accompany the filmmakers and cast on a fascinating journey behind-the-scenes of this modern classic.
Paramount Home Entertainment (PHE) is part of Paramount Pictures Corporation (PPC), a global producer and distributor of filmed entertainment. PPC is a unit of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), a leading content company with prominent and respected film, television and digital entertainment brands. PHE is responsible for the worldwide sales, marketing and distribution of home entertainment products on behalf of various parties including: Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Studios, Paramount Vantage, Paramount Classics, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, CBS, PBS and Hasbro and for providing home entertainment fulfillment services for DreamWorks Animation Home Entertainment.
Lucasfilm, INDIANA JONES and related properties and titles are trademarks and/or copyrights, in the United States and other countries, of Lucasfilm Ltd. TM (c) Lucasfilm Ltd. All rights reserved. All other trademarks and trade names are properties of their respective owners.
The 2008 season on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Classic, ESPN360.com, ESPN Radio, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN Regional Television will feature more than 400 regular and post-season games, including weekly Saturday night games on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. I just heard GAMEDAY is going to Vandy. WHAT ? why Not BYU or Oklahoma, or Oregon,? They wont go west unless a team is ranked #1, but they will go to the SEC THREE WEEKS in a row, BIASED ? YES. They hate to travel ESPN wimps, corso cant get up that early.
A lousy game thanks to Georgia piss poor effort , but some good signs this week! It took a debate to bring out the political references. A huge crowd, half of alabama made the trip, and I cant wait to hear the stories you guys wite in. Erin Andrews signs have all but dissappeared, the wazzu flag was there, and Fowler even mentioned it! Who is Richard Gower? who is JPW 135.51? Ronnie Curran is everywhere? Carter B, wish you were here!
Again these are the best I saw, tell me the best ones I missed.

Besiktas and Galatasaray look to build over their wins, while Kayserispor chases a dream in Paris.
Besiktas visits Metalist Kharkiv for the UEFA Cup first round game Thursday.
After beating Metalist 1-0 in Istanbul two weeks ago, Besiktas holds an apparent advantage before the second leg game, and even a draw will be enough for it to advance to the competition's group stages for a record fourth time.
So, another game to Besiktas' eight-game unbeaten streak and the Black Eagles will fly off to the next round. However, playing at Metalist may be tricky. Besides the not-so-welcomingly cold climate, Metalist is a strong and physical team that does not allow many chances to its opposition.
Besiktas has seen enough of that, as the first leg game could have gone either way, if the only goal of the game was canceled for offside.
Besiktas was not playing its best in that game, but the Ukrainians were not very experienced at that stage and Ertugrul Saglam's side exploited that very well. It needs to do more of the same to advance to the next round.
The game at Metalist Stadium starts 8:00 p.m.
Galatasaray on a goal spree :
Galatasaray's job at the UEFA Cup may be easier, though, as it plays lowly Swiss side Bellinzona in Istanbul, also Thursday.
In an illogically open game, Galatasaray was victor 4-3 in Switzerland, leaving little work to do at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium. Now even a loss like 1-0 will see Galatasaray through to the next round, and it seems that Galatasaray will not lose much sweat over beating Bellinzona again.
The Swiss side is struggling in its league currently, and has only one win in nine games, while Galatasaray is on an astounding goal spree with 12 goals in three games. Its foreign players are the major reason for that attacking football shining, as Milan Baros took the lead with six goals.
The Czech player is successfully rehabilitating his career, especially remembering that he had nine goals in his 56 games in the last two years.
Thursday night he will try to add to his goal tally against a side that is not successful at defending. The game starts at 8:00 p.m.
Of all the four Turkish teams vying for further rounds on the European stage, Kayserispor probably has the most difficult task to do.
Losing the first leg game 2-1 to Paris St. Germain at its own ground, the Turkish Cup holder's chase for the next round is likely to be a chase for the rainbows.
Kayseri is known for its solid defensive play and may finish the game in France with a clean sheet, but this time conceding no goals will not be enough, it needs to score as well.
Tolunay Kafkas' side is a terrible attacking team and is yet to score two goals in a match this season.
In fact, Kayserispor has two goals in five league games, and if it wants to stay a part of the European competition, it needs at least two on Thursday.
However, the fact that Paris St. Germain is a vulnerable team may be promising. The Parisians have lost two games in a row, and Kayserispor looks to take the streak to three.
The game at the Parc des Princes starts at 10:00 p.m.Local Time.

For years, Boise State's defense has taken a back seat to the Broncos' clever, high-scoring offense. But this year, the defense is taking every opportunity to change that perception. Thanks to a fourth-quarter goal-line stand, a stifling run defense and constant quarterback pressure, it was the defense that led the 17th-ranked Broncos to a 38-3 victory over Louisiana Tech on Wednesday night.

Last night was one of those nights that I woke up several times, tossed and turned and got another hour or so sleep before it was time to repeat the process. I even woke up 20 minutes before my alarm was to go off at 5am. I got all my swim stuff together and got on the bike. Bicycling at 5:30am is perfection. It is still dark outside but the winter cold hasnt set in yet. I illegally ride listening to music on my iPhone to get myself pumped up for the swim.
I figure it takes about 20 minutes to bike to the pool in the morning since I dont have to deal with much traffic and I may or may not follow all the traffic rules. I stake out a lane and start to warm up. I warmed up a 600 free swim followed by 200 Pull with paddles, 100 pull without paddles and then a 100 swim. At some point during the 1000 LCM warm up one of my team mate joins me. Today it would be just the two of us as the others bailed out on us this week. We then move on to 6x50 drill / swim taking 10 seconds rest. Our final warm up set was 4x50s build taking 10 seconds rest. At this point I have 1500 LCM under my belt so I move onto the beef of the workout.
After talking to my lane mate plus factoring in various emails and chats Ive had over the last week about swimming we decided to dust off an oldie but goodie, the 10x100 If you look to the side under categories youll see a whole section on Ten 100s Breakthrough Set. Once apon a time our team had a set on the first Monday of every month wed do 10x100 The point was to go all out on all ten. Over time youd hopefully be improving your times from training. At first I thought the 10x100s were the best thing this butter on toast. It was a fun way to see how I was doing without having to compete. Over time it became a chore. Swimming on a Monday at 6am is hard enough never mind swimming all out. Last Spring before Nationals and IGLA the workout was retired. Im sure at some point someone will suggest that we do that set again but for now this morning was my 10x100s Set:
10x100s LCM on 2:30
1. 1:15
2. 1:14
3. 1:13
4. 1:13
5. 1:13
6. 1:12
7. 1:13
8. 1:13
9. 1:13
10. 1:13
As you can see I was averaging a 1:13. Not bad for a LCM 100 free. Ive never swam this set in a LCM pool so lets just say it was a good swim. I think if I had someone next to me racing and pushing me I could have done a bit faster. Its so hard to just go all balls out when swimming alone with no one to psych you up. I felt pretty good to the 8th one and then after that it was a struggle. Considering I held a pretty good pace Im happy. 1:13 was my fastest 100 time in my 1500 a few months ago LINK so that is the pace I need to be doing in a set like this.
We then did a 100 recovery. We then did 6x50s one kick / one swim IM order no freestyle. Finishing up with a 50 fly as my lane mate wanted to try to do it. Then another 50 warm down. I was tired so I got out. Then I biked the scenic route home trying to avoid traffic. Which meant going up one very steap hill in Beverlywood which I gave up and walked the bike up it. Its actually a nice scenic route as Im riding towards the hills with Century City view to my left and peeping out on my right was downtown in clear view. But before that I was scrambling fast to get to the left turn lane in Culver when my bike light bounced off my bike. I pulled aside and was waiting for traffic to stop to pick it up as it layed in the street. Cars and trucks went by without hitting it and then when I see the last car coming, which might have been the 13th car, I was in the street walking towards it when it was run over and smashed into many itsy bitsy pieces. Mind you the light has been on the fritz so it was time to get a new one. Ive been driving in the dark without it working for over a week. Ive just been too cheap to buy a new one. Now I really dont have a choice.

And the Chargers ROLL! Just As I told all of you who called and emailed for the FREE pick On San Diego. Over 1100 Visitors here Monday, and a record 132 requests for free picks, and they all WON FOR FREE, on the Chargers- 8 and the over.I was able to bet it at -7, buying the half point in vegas, and shopping around is a luxury i can afford, but the line dropped mid day and I took it. YOU should always get the best line you can. The information I had told me the Chargers were not going lose, and were going to make sure of it, with no close call.
I had an excellent weekend and was in a good mood to let everyone win, and get out of whatever hole they had gotten themselves into. The Sunday Night-Monday Record for me is now 15-4. this season. The weekend finished on the plus side again 12-8.
I have some excellent mismatches picked out for this Saturday. and EVERYONE who contacts me at MyFootBallJesus@yahoo.com can get the special for the WHOLE month of October and get this WEEKEND thrown in for FREE.
FREE PICKS everyday, just email MyFootBallJesus@yahoo.

maybe), we thought it was time to focus a few minutes (and no more than a few minutes) on the election.
Circle it on the calendar: Week 9's Monday Night Football matchup of the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Washington Redskins. The date is Nov. 3, 2008. That's one day before the presidential election. Late that night is when the election will be determined. Not 24 hours later when NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and CNN project Barack Obama or John McCain the winner. Nov. 3, 2008, is the presidential election version of Groundhog Day, only it comes every four years and we are somewhat confident that there is no evidence to show that a groundhog is used in any manner to determine the results.
Since 1940, the Washington Redskins have determined who won the presidency. Well, except one time, and that was 2004 when George W. Bush beat John Kerry. Of course, maybe there should be a recount in Ohio afterall. Anyway, the Redskins' final home game before the election is the one that determines the White House. If the Redskins win, the incumbent party wins the election. If the Redskins lose, the party out of power wins the White House. Fairly simple. And this leads us to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Washington, Nov 3, 2008.

I wanted to wait a week before I talked about the USF game. Bye weeks stink, especially after heartbreaking losses. We did some good things on the field last Saturday. The special teams and defense played great.
Penalties:
Ive never seen so many personal fouls in one game against one team. Some calls appeared to be bad, some were just boneheaded. I can understand both. With the Big East imploding this year, South Florida had to be protected by Big East officials. As far as the boneheaded penalties, I probably would have done the same. The emotion that I saw before the game in Memory Mall was the same that I saw on the field with our players. I bet it was hard to let up at times.
Defense:
Defensively we look really good. Im impressed with our run defense and tackling this early in the season. Our defensive backs did a decent job, but the younger guys seemed to have a few problems defending the deep ball. Grothe was still impossible to shut down, but we did sack him a couple of times.
Lawrence Young is an animal at the linebacker spot. He had one sack, 6 tackles, and 3.5 tackles for a loss. Torrell Troup and Corey Hogue had one sack each. Bruce Miller had a nice interception that helped us get back into the game. David Williams blew by his blocker and blew up a running back to hurry Grothe on a 2-11 play with UCF down 24-17. To me, that was the biggest defensive play (after the interception) in the comeback.
Overall, I think our defensive line played very well against a team that has a pretty strong offensive line. USF running backs averaged over 4 yards a carry but Grothe was contained pretty well on the ground.

9-3 is the perfect record to have for the Irish at this time. with 9 wins the Irish will go to a mid-level bowl and hopefully win. Now more importantly is what comes next season - with 9 wins and a bowl win PLUS the VERY YOUNG Irish team getting that much older I predict a 1 or 2 loss season in 2009 with a possible BCS bowl. 2010 the Irish will play for the National Championship.

After sitting through the embarrassment of the Orange a few Saturdays ago at the Carrier Dome (PSU 55-13), I could not help but start to think where should this once proud top 25 program turn once they fire Greg Robinson in the coming months. Its fairly obvious that Robinson is not getting it done at Syracuse and probably should have been replaced last season. Looking over the landscape of college football creates a lot of interesting candidates (Im not sure Lane Kiffin is the way to go as hes a west coast guy)any of which would be a significant upgrade over the current conditions.
Here are just a few names that would be worth a phone call for Syracuse.

Maybe more telling is the play on the field, which consisted of a number of bone-crushing hits Tuesday and Wednesday. None was more dramatic than a Worrell Williams hit on Peter Geurts in the backfield that literally made the coaches pause before calling the next play. Gregory said Tuesday's practice was the best bye-week effort he has seen since arriving at Cal in 2002. The proof won't come until a Sept. 27 game against Colorado State, and there's plenty to fix in the meantime. The offense has to start converting on third-down plays, according to Tedford, and can't forget the most dynamic player in the conference resides in its backfield. Cal was 2-for-11 on third downs against Maryland and called for passes on the final 25 plays, instead of handing the ball to Jahvid Best. Take your pick, Tedford said. They took turns. One time it's a blown route, one time it's pressure, one time it's something else. Redshirt freshman right tackle Mitchell Schwartz, who quickly is becoming a sensation for pancake blocks on YouTube, has moved to the left to protect sophomore quarterback Kevin Riley's blind side. Left tackle Chet Teofilo is manning the right side after being outmanned by Maryland. The defense kind of gets a pass for limiting Michigan State running back Javon Ringer to 81 yards before he went for 417 yards and seven touchdowns the last two weeks. Still, Gregory didn't hide how Maryland had two 80-yard rushers Saturday. It's get back to the basics, Gregory said. There's no need to scrap what we do. We've got to get better at what we do. That means the defensive line and linebackers have to be fundamentally sound enough to fill the proper gaps, and that means the safeties have to erase the mistakes of the front seven. None of that, according to Gregory, happened against Maryland.

#5 : A plush Reunion Arena seet complete with drink holder
Its a shame really.
The city of Dallas is in the midst of selling off the pieces to Reunion Arena ahead of its March 2009 implosion.
This is the same place where thousands slept after Katrina blasted their Louisiana homes. Benny Hinn held a Miracle Crusade in this building. Madonna performed there on her Blond Ambition tour.
Even those party animal Republicans held a national convention in this building.
Now is your chance to buy a piece of this great American history. Just imagine sitting back in your Reunion Arena theater-like seat, sipping on a beer and thinking back to the simpler days when Rolando Blackman used to light it up.

Christian Vande Velde, Tyler Hamilton and George Hincapie, three of the country’s most veteran and accomplished riders, all declined participation. And it’s the riders’ prerogative.
But my hunch is that three riders opted not go to the Italian event next week based on family responsibilities and a long season, for sure. And, of course, a spokesman for the organization was quick to rationalize the three riders decisions.
But more to the point: USA Cycling is a great organization when it comes to touting its athletes — when they do well.
But where is USA Cycling in its efforts to market and promote the sport and athletes to the mainstream sporting public? Cycling insiders know what’s going on; it’s the public that needs to be educated. USA Cycling doesnt do much to showcase its athletes on a year-round basis.
In fact, I’ve reported on cycling for nearly 25 years, and I’ve always been amazed how little the riders’ national governing body does to promote and market, particularly in its national championships.
Where are the results? Why doesn’t USA Cycling contact the Associated Press to at least get the results filed on the national wire service?
Andy Lee is USA Cycling’s media relations representative, and he distributes a lot of press releases, often about sponsors and new programs. He works hard. But where was Lee at the Tour of California, Tour de Georgia or Tour of Missouri — the country’s three largest races? He wasn’t at any of them.
So, it’s no wonder Hamilton, Hincapie and Vande Velde declined. And what did USA Cycling do? It offered the spots to young pros Craig Lewis, Steven Cozza and Lucas Euser.
If USA Cycling wanted to show some respect to riders, it could have offered two of the spots to Bobby Julich and Mike Sayers.
Julich, a long-time veteran who won many races in hiscareer, recently announced his retirement after a rekindled few seasons with CSC. Sayers, who rode on the world team twice, was an unheralded team rider for much of his 15-year career. He rode in the recent Tour of Missouri as his last race.
But USA Cycling didn’t make the offer, and it came as little surprise.

1. Georgia
The Bulldogs played a tight game against SEC-East foe South Carolina this past weekend. They stay at #1 with a big game against Arizona State - in Arizona - this coming weekend.
2. Florida
The Gators had the week off, which allowed them plenty of time to prep for Tennessee this weekend.
3. LSU
North Texas was no problem for LSU, which was expected from the worst defense in college football. LSUs offense will face a hard test this coming weekend as they travel to the Plains to play Auburn.
4. Vanderbilt
Who would have guessed that Vandy would be 3-0 with a win over an SEC opponent in the bag. Their QB may be one of the best all-around athletes in the league, and they are playing great football.
5. Auburn
The Tigers slip to #5 this week based on their terrible offensive play against Mississippi State. Their defense proved once again to be one of the best in the conference, holding Mississippi State to 116 all purpose yards. Look for the against LSU this weekend.
6. Alabama
The Tide rolled over Western Kentucky, but did anyone expect them not to? They face Arkansas this week, who have had a week off thanks to Hurricane Ike. A road trip to Fayetteville is never easy.
7. Ole Miss
An easy win over Samford. They will have a bigger test against Vandy this week.
8. Tennessee
The Vols looked better against UAB, but that is a young Blazer team. They host Flordia this weekend and are looking to upset the Gators. They just might be able to pull it out.
9. South Carolina
A great game against Georgia. The seem to be getting better each week, but their offense still needs work.
10. Kentucky
The Wildcats barely escaped their game against Middle Tennessee, stopping them from scoring on the 1 yard line as time expired. Their offense is still not clicking, but the defense is keeping them in the games.
11. Arkansas
They had a bye week thanks to Ike, but will have a hard test against Alabama at home this weekend.
12.Mississippi State
That was a great defensive game for the Bulldogs, but the offense looked like a Junior High team. The Maroon faithful are going to begin calling for Crooms head soon - or at least Woody McCorveys.

8. Tennessee

Yahoo! Sports, September 8: • Is it too early to start contemplating which team will be this year's Miami, which lost its first 13 games in '07, triggering a complete front-office and coaching overhaul? I didn't think so. The nominees: First, the Detroit Lions. Buoyed by the usual big talk from quarterback Jon Kitna, the Lions opened against the Falcons in Atlanta Sunday and got blown off the field by a team that went 4-12 last season and was starting a rookie quarterback. The Lions, who lost by a 34-21 score that could have been worse, allowed the Falcons to run for a franchise-record 306 yards. Detroit is now 31-82 since the start of the 2001 season, and it appears that number could get even more lopsided in the weeks to come.
