This is a question more and more people and businesses in the UK are asking themselves. And it is a good one.
Historically, people just like you have tried to avoid bankruptcy due to the perceived stigma of bankruptcy in the UK. Bankruptcy was thought to be something irresponsible people did. But that is just not true.
Bankruptcy today has become a logical, legal and beneficial tool for many people to use to remedy a difficult and problematic bad debt situation.
In a perfect world, you would be able to easily repay your debts, or enter into an IVA agreement to repay your debts over a five year period to avoid bankruptcy. But we dont live in a perfect world, do we?
Today we live in a UK under siege from rising fuel and petrol prices, skyrocketing food prices, inflation and income stagnation.
So what reasonable solutions exist today for good people with bad debt? The cold answer, not many. Creditors have gutted the access to the IVA for many people by refusing repayments unless they feel it is worth their time. Now isnt that just ironic, creditors are actually refusing to accept reasonable payments. Instead, creditors want consumers to avoid bankruptcy and agree to nominal monthly payment plans that will almost never clear the debt, even over a number of decades.
Bankruptcy is a legal solution to eliminate your debt, and one that should be explored.
But before you jump into bankruptcy, Read what the UK government Insolvency Service has to say about bankruptcy.

Lady Tams snatch Game 1 vs. Lady Maroons
By Merck Maguddayao
The Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws barely escaped the last quarter onslaught of third-seeded University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons, 54-52, in a pulsating Game One in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines women’s basketball Finals in the San Juan Arena today.
Up by ten points at the start of the fourth quarter, the league-leading Lady Tamaraws got spared from an upset as the Lady Maroons failed to convert crucial free throws and potential game-winning shots in a number of instances.
“We really had bad breaks sa fourth quarter kasi sablay ang mga free throws namin at hindi na-sustain yung opensa namin. Buti na lang, we held on with our tough team defense kaya kahit paano na-contain namin ang UP,” said Lady Tamaraws head coach Michael Oliver after the game.
Lady Tamaraw shooter Bernadette Mercado tallied 13 points, three assists, and three steals to lead a balanced FEU attack while Lady Maroon captain Sihaya Sadorra led UP’s charge with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Fresh from grueling Final Four matches, both teams scored sparingly in the opening canto. However, the Lady Tamaraws’ shooting began to click later in the quarter as guards Love Miag-ao and Marilou Borja converted seven perimeter points to clinch an early 13-6 lead for FEU.
In the second quarter, the Lady Tamaraws continued their consistency in offense as Miag-ao collaborated with Mercado for nine points to keep the Lady Maroons at bay, 26-15, to end the first half.
Down by a huge margin, the Lady Maroons found life in the third quarter with Sadorra exploding for 13 points off hustle plays as UP contracted the lead to four points in a few occasions. However, a buzzer-beating three-point shot from Marilou Borja put the momentum back as the Lady Tamaraws closed the quarter leading, 41-34.
An early trey from Mercado and an acrobatic reverse lay-up from forward Chovi Borja propelled the Lady Tamaraws to a double-digit cushion in the payoff period. Undaunted, the Lady Maroons fought back as Sadorra, Fatima Tolentino, and Danielle Bautista attacked the basket to cut the lead to five, 54-49.
In the last two minutes, both teams missed several penalty shots and played erratic offense as the Lady Tamaraws seemed to take the win home. However, a surprise three-point shot from Lady Maroon point guard Camille Tomelden cut the lead to two, 54-52, with 19 seconds left.
Off four missed free throws from the Lady Tamaraws and a chance for the win, Lady Maroon guard Jedil Robelo threw an airball from the three-point line as UP suffered its third defeat from FEU this season.
This season’s Finals duel is a match-up of runner-ups, with the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Maroons bagging the silver trophy in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Game Two is set on September 24 at the San Juan Arena starting at 1 pm.
FEU (54) - Mercado 13, Miag-ao 8, C. Borja 6, Rivera 6, M. Borja, Positos 5, Reyes 4, Palmera 4, Sernal 2, Leviste 0, Supnet 0
UP (52) - Sadorra 17, Tolentino 16, Tomelden 7, D. Bautista 4, Cainglet 3, Paz 2, Casino 2, Robelo 0, Del Rosario 0, M.

In what way to Play Basketball

  • Sep. 29th, 2008 at 6:40 AM
australia casino vacation, baseball shoes, australian tennis, addiction gambling, baseball pants
Next month the NBA will try to increase the appeal of its game in Britain when two of its teams, the Miami Heat and the New Jersey Nets, play a preseason friendly in a sold-out match at London’s O2 Arena. The NBA hopes it will kickstart a wave of interest in a sport that is popular all over the world except, curiously, in Britain.
“Of all the markets we have visited, the one with the greatest potential is the UK,” said Stern. “Basketball does not have the tradition here that it has in other European markets.”
The NBA generates revenues of $4 billion (£2.1 billion) a year, with about 15% of that, $600m, coming from outside North America. Its income is derived from television rights, merchandise sales and, increasingly, from its internet presence.
Only a fraction of that $600m is made in Britain, where basketball has little exposure on television and has failed to capture the public’s imagination.
It is not through lack of trying. Over the years business-men such as Harvey Goldsmith, the impresario, and Chris Wright, the founder of Chrysalis music, have owned British basketball clubs, only to find the sport struggled to compete against football.
Such is the power of Britain’s most popular spectator sport, that many domestic events struggle to challenge its hegemony, never mind imports from America. That hasn’t prevented them from trying, with professional ice hockey and American football launching strong efforts to make an impact here.
Steve Martin, chief executive of MC Saatchi Sport Entertainment, said the NBA’s structure and its “increasing determination” would help it edge out its compatriot sports in the bid for wider appeal.
There have been several false dawns in Stern’s attempts to nurture a love affair between the British and the sport he governs. The NBA first staged a match on these shores in 1993; the experience was not an altogether happy one. “We had to bring in the flooring, the sound system, the lighting,” said Stern. “We made a decision that we would come back to an arena that was more suited to displaying our game.”
The league made its O2 debut last year and the experience was positive enough for it to decide to return. Beyond that, it is not clear what may lie ahead, but Stern believes that the 2012 Olympics may be the NBA’s best hope of gaining serious traction in Britain.
Experts believe that basketball could take off over here, but it may require more work.
MC Saatchi’s Martin said: “No question, there is an appetite for the NBA but it’s whether that can be sustained by one-off matches.”
A sign of its commitment to growing in Britain is that the NBA has moved its European headquarters from Paris to London, where it now has 30 staff.
Stern admits that expansion is even more important given the state of the American economy, and that sports cannot afford to be complacent.
“It is inconceivable that [the downturn in the economy] will not have some impact on the sport,” he said. “As families are required to cut back on spending, they are more likely to consume their sport on television than in person.”
He said that attendances last season were unaffected, but sea-son-ticket renewal rates “are not quite as robust as last year”.
Stern knows a thing or two about tough times. When he took over as commissioner in 1984, the NBA was on the brink of collapse, with five of its teams on the verge of bankruptcy. He is widely credited with having turned the business around, making icons of its most prominent stars, including the likes of Michael Jordan, by putting them on lunchboxes and video games, and transforming the NBA into the cash cow it is today.
An obvious sign of the NBA’s health is its latest deal on broadcasting rights. Stern recently locked in a new television contract that begins with the impending season, starting on October 28, and runs until the end of the 2015-16 season. The eight-year agreement is understood to be worth about $7.5 billion, a 20% increase on the previous six-year arrangement.
“I was a young lawyer when I signed the first deal for the NBA with cable television and we got $400,000 a year in 1979. If someone had asked me then what the figure would be in 2008, and I had said about $800m per annum, they would have put me away.”
That sentiment could also be expressed about the growing popularity of the NBA in China, which represents the biggest opportunity for the sport outside America.
It’s the numbers that do it. “There are 300m people in America. There are 300m basketball players in China,” said Stern. Such is the scale of the country, the league has carved out more than 50 separate television deals there to make sure it can be seen by as many fans as possible. The league has set up an affiliate, NBA China, and in January sold a minority stake to outside investors, including ESPN, the Walt Dis-ney-owned sports broadcaster, and Bank of China.
It is unlikely that Britain is ever going to be as nuts about basketball as the Chinese - who, Stern points out, had a team competing in the sport at the 1936 Olympics - but if he could finally persuade Britain to truly embrace the sport, he would be very happy.

ARE Baya championship material? The question will be answered this coming Saturday at the Palais des Sports when they meet PLS Hawks in their second-round match-up.
Baya’s ‘JP’ (dribbling) has been on fire lately but the real test will come against Bernard Bristol’s PLS Hawks this coming Saturday
In a purple patch since the end of the first round, Baya brushed aside MBU Rockers’ challenge on Sunday, prompting many to believe that 2008 could be their year.
Also this weekend in the Men’s Division One league, PLS Hawks and Premium Cobras collected victories to keep pace with the leaders. In the Men’s Division Two, Mont Fleuri Dawgz moved a step closer to winning the title, while HotShots extended their winning run to eight games in the Women’s League.

Baya 92 … MBU Rockers 62

The Rockers had surprised Baya in the first-round match-up, winning 83-75. But coach Michel Malbrook’s Baya had just one thing on their agenda on Sunday: a win in the return match. And they showed championship credentials with a 30-point difference win.
Baya came out looking for the win early as Jean-Paul ‘JP’ Camille fired on all cylinders, getting 16 of his game-high 36 points in the first quarter which they won 30-14.
In fact, coach Michel Malbrook’s Baya won all four quarters in an intense match played in a rather friendly atmosphere.
Despite the 30-point defeat, the Rockers never dropped their guard as they added their fair share to the excitement on the court. Playmaker Nigel Sinon used his dribbling skills to penetrate the Baya defence and score 23 points, while Robert Francis came off the bench to score eight points during his team’s 13-5 third-quarter run. As for swingman Cyril Agrippine, he played his first match since breaking his nose in his team’s first-round win against Beau Vallon Heat. Agrippine was caught by an elbow right in the nose and needed surgery to repair the damage. He wore a yellow face mask at the start of Sunday’s game, but pulled it off at the end of the first quarter.
Captain-of-the-day Robert Léon scored 24 points for Baya, who also got 16 points from playmaker Giovanni Laval.
Baya have 30 points after 14 wins and two defeats and their supporters will know if they are championship material when they play defending champions PLS Hawks this coming Saturday at the Palais des Sports. A win for Baya will put them on the road to a first Men’s Division One league title.

RC Dynamics 56 … PLS Hawks 79

With Ugandan all-rounder Stephen Omony rested, Seychelles centre Rodney Lozé carried the scoring load for PLS Hawks with 24 points in a 79-56 win against RC Dynamics.
Bernard Bristol was the second best scorer with 11 points for the Hawks, who have been invited to compete in the 23rd Africa Champions Cup in Tunisia from December 12-21.
With a match in hand on Baya, the Hawks have 29 points after 14 wins and a loss, and this coming weekend’s match-up between the two is crucial for the defending champions who have to win and then beat Premium Cobras by a four-point difference to retain the title.
In the absence of centre Emmanuel Larue, Jean-Paul Desaubin came off the bench to score 21 points for RC Dynamics, who have 22 points following seven victories and eight defeats.

Beau Vallon Heat 43 … Premium Cobras 97

Nigerian Alao Solomon again had the hot hands for Premium Cobras with 43 points, including four 3-pointers, and he got help from power forward Dominic Pillay, who netted 28 in the 97-43 defeat of Beau Vallon Heat.
The win was Premium Cobras’ 13 in 15 games and they have 28 points, while the Heat, who got 14 points from M. Marimba, boast 17 points after two wins and 13 defeats.

Praslin Warriors 97 … Razors 66

Skipper Jackson Auguste led all scores with 32 points as home team Praslin Warriors collected their third win on the trot, their latest victims being tailenders Razors. The final score was 97-66 (55-27 at half-time).
Christopher Valmont top scored with 20 points for the Razors, who have 15 points. Praslin Warriors are on 22 points after six wins and 10 losses.

Pointe Larue Falcons 59 … Mont Fleuri Dawgz 81

The Falcons looked like upsetting the Dawgz as they won the first quarter 20-11 but they failed to maintain the momentum with Kevin Sinon in foul trouble early.
The Dawgz outscored their opponents 26-15, 24-11 and 20-13 in the remaining three quarters for an 81-59 win, bringing their points tally to 33 in 17 games played (16 wins and one loss).
With 20 points including four treys, Christopher Dugasse led the Dawgz in scoring, while skipper Reggie Ah-kong (15 points), Jim Créa (12) and Stefan Romain (10) were the team’s three other players in double figures.
The Falcons were led in scoring by Sam Gabriel with 20 points which went to waste in the team’s third defeat in 14 games.
The Dawgz have three matches left to play before they are sure of being crowned 2008 Men’s Division Two champions to play top flight basketball next year.

HotShots 70 … Mont Fleuri 58

A 70-58 win over Mont Fleuri gave HotShots their eighth consecutive win as they stay top of the six-team Women’s League standings with a maximum 18 points.
Anse Boileau-based HotShots will know if they could be crowned champions this year when they play defending champs Anse Etoile Stars this coming Saturday.
HotShots have the advantage over the Stars after they took care of their opponents with an 11-point margin victory (57-46) in the first round.
The Stars need to win by a difference of at least 12 points to have a hope of retaining their title.

Since this is essentially the last game for the Cats and there are still some serious question marks, these will be all focused on UK.
1. Do the wideouts finally step up? - Ive been extremely critical of Kentuckys wide receiving corp this season - especially Kyrus Lanxter.  The group has not played well at all this year and when Mike Hartline won SEC Offensive Player of the Week, it seemed like the spotlight got even brighter on this unit.  Well, maybe it wasnt exactly fair of us to expect a lot this year early on and maybe were just spoiled by Keenan and Stevie and Jacob.  An important thing to remember when looking at this unit is that its not only young, but its also filled with guys playing out of their positiong.  Dicky Lyons is the leader and most proven player, but he should be a slot receiver, not a #1  guy.  Then, you have a mix of true freshman, injuries and a large group of guys who are basically trying to learn the position.  This is basically who the UK receiving unit is.  Kentucky doesnt have the luxury of recruiting top wideouts, so they have to get athletes and mold them into receivers, which takes time.  Even Keenan went through this.  So, after three games and an extra week of practice, will this rag-tag group of pass-catchers finally show signs of development and will Kyrus Rad Tad Lanxter eliminate the mental mistakes and make the plays we know hes capable of?  Lets hope or else things could get ugly in Tuscaloosa next week.
2. Will UK ever have a running game? - Lost in the Bench Hartline and Our receivers suck message board talk is the fact that the one given on the offense headed into the season, the running game, has been non-existant to this point and is really putting more pressure on the inexperienced group mentioned above.  Sure, UK ranks 92nd nationally in pass offense and 30 spots higher in rushing offense, but this is a unit that ranked 4th in the SEC last year and could burn the clock and move the ball when the Cats needed it.  This year, nothing.  And Tony Dixon is getting a lot of the blame, which is deserved.  Dixon has the most carries on the team.but the fourth most rushing yards.  Hes averaging 2.4 yards per carry (29 carries for 74 yards), which is bad enough, but its downright awful when compared with Derrick Lockes 6.2 (25 for 156), Alfonso Smiths 4.7 (18 for 84) and Moncell Allens 6.8 (12 for 81).  We got another promise this week that Dixon is healthy and wed see a new, fresh Tony Dixon but Im not putting much stock in it.  If he plays well, then God bless him.  If he doesnt, then sit him down for the rest of the year and let the other guys get loose.
BUTs not let the offensive line shirk any blame here.  Theyve taken a massive step back since last season and it might not be a stretch to say that the problems in the running game are mostly the fault of poor blocking.  I cant give you stats on it, so Im not going to make that bold claim.  But, I do know that Ive been supremely disappointed (as has the coaching staff) in the lack of progress from this unit since camp.  They need a big confidence boost today to get them going headed into the SEC slate.  No sacks and a 100-yard rusher should do the trick.  Is that too much to ask?
3. Will we score anything worth three points? - Well, the Lones Mother Fing Seiber era ended quietly this week when Coach Brooks announced that Ryan Tydlacka will share time - which means kick Seibers field goals.  Ill admit I always kind of enjoyed my love-hate relationship with Seiber and his status as the leading voice of emo in college football made him mildly intriguing, but after the MTSU game, I was over it.  Heres to Tydlacka knocking em down and Seiber putting down the Morrissey and razor blades and getting into the Jonas Brothers.

Lessons From Basketballs Greatest Coach

  • Sep. 27th, 2008 at 2:37 AM
australia casino vacation, baseball shoes, australian tennis, addiction gambling, baseball pants
John Maxwell recently wrote of the lessons we can learn from basketball's greatest coach, John Wooden. It was so good, I thought I'd post it here:

At 97 years of age, John Wooden is a legend in the coaching profession. In 1999, ESPN named him The Greatest Coach of the 20th Century.

The list of honors garnered by Coach Wooden during his coaching career is unrivaled.
Over the course of twelve years, his UCLA Bruins basketball teams won ten NCAA Championships, including an astonishing seven in a row from 1967 to 1973. For comparison's sake, no other men's coach has won more than 4 NCAA titles.

He led his teams to four undefeated seasons; no other coach has had more than one undefeated season.

His teams set a record by winning 88 games in a row, including 38 in a row in the NCAA Tournament.

Winning: More than the score
After glancing at Coach Wooden's record, a person may be misled into thinking Coach Wooden was a man preoccupied with winning. However, nothing could be further from the truth. For Coach Wooden, competition was never about comparing his team to the opposing squad. Despite all of the victories, trophies, and championships, Coach Wooden never spoke to his team about winning.

John Wooden was college basketball's greatest coach because he kept score differently than any other coach. Rather than measuring success in terms of wins and losses, he focused relentlessly on potential and improvement. Coach Wooden would grow livid if his players loafed when the team was ahead by 20 points, and he could be thrilled with his team's performance - even when they lost by 20 points.

Leadership Application: When businesses focus exclusively on market share or the bottom line, they run the risk of overlooking or undervaluing the people, processes, and systems that drive results.

Practice: Not perfection, but preparation
When questioned by reporters about missing team practices, current NBA star Allen Iverson gave a disdainful tirade on the pettiness of practice. "We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about practice. I mean, listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game... how silly is that?"

For many sports fans, Iverson's comments were emblematic of the arrogance and me-first attitude of an athlete in the National Basketball Association. If nothing else, his words revealed his underlying attitude: I'm an NBA superstar; I've arrived; I'm good enough to skip practice; practice doesn't matter, it's my performance on game day that counts.

To John Wooden, such an attitude would have been reprehensible. Coach Wooden's style was best noted for his keen attention to detail and the rigors of his practice regimen. In his words, "If you prepare properly, you may be outscored but you will never lose. You always win when you make the full effort to do the best of which you're capable."

For Coach Wooden, winning happened when the stands were empty and the spectators absent. He loved the day-by-day discipline of practice. By convincing his team to give their best effort at practice, he coached them to perform at a higher level than opponents. As a result, he enjoyed unprecedented success when games were played and championships were on the line.

Leadership Application: Challenge your people to give top effort every day, and prepare to the point of excess. If you don't tolerate sloppiness when the team prepares, then they will perform better in pressure situations.

Peak Performers: More than Talent
John Wooden gained an advantage over other coaches because he had a superior method of selecting players. While most recruiters scoured high school gyms solely in search of talent and athleticism, Coach Wooden began his search from a different vantage point.

When selecting players, Coach Wooden's primary consideration was the student's transcript. For him, a student's discipline in the classroom spoke volumes about the young man's priorities. Coach Wooden wanted players who recognized their primary responsibility was to earn a college degree rather than excel on the court.

When evaluating potential recruits, John Wooden's second criterion was the student's family life. Did the student respect his parents or guardians? Did the student treat his siblings kindly? By looking into a potential player's family life, Coach Wooden measured the player's ability to build healthy relationships. He knew relational skills were essential for establishing teamwork and camaraderie.

John Wooden's third consideration when selecting talent was the composite evaluation of six coaches. He was leery of basing his analysis on a single performance. By diligently consulting the opinion of six coaches, Coach Wooden measured consistency. He wanted to avoid selecting players who gave top effort one night only to withhold it on another evening.
Coach Wooden's final criteria for selecting players were quickness and talent. He wasn't naïve. He knew speed and natural ability were uncoachable and irreplaceable. Even so, he refused to select a player until he felt comfortable with the young man's priorities, relationships, and track record of consistent performance.

Leadership Application: By looking blindly at talent, leaders end up with malcontents who place personal gain above team spirit or talent-rich sluggards who rarely give their best effort. When hiring, consider an interviewee's life priorities, relational history, and career accomplishments. Don't discount talent, but never elevate it as the sole quality in a prospective teammate.

I love Kobe's responses. He's really a one of a kind player. The guy that demands the ball at the end of the game. He's willing to put all the pressure on his shoulders. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, those guys also demanded the ball in the crucial situations. I don't think Team USA wins gold if Kobe Bryant and Lebron James are not on the team.

Coach K was great too. I really do feel that coaching a group of "superstars" and managing a group of individuals who are all so successful in their own right, to play together as a unit is tougher than coaching a mediocre team to overachieve. Kobe says that Coach K was a great motivator and a great communicator. That's where human psychology becomes so important, even more important than any X's and O's. I also like what Coach K said about how they coached the 4th quarter of the Gold medal game. The score was close, but in those situations, just put the ball in your best players hands and let them win the game for you. Sounds cheesy, but it's like Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder, "Just let me drive Harry, I won't make a fool out of you."

Jerry Colangelo does deserve the most credit for sure. He really picked the players that fit the team chemistry. Sure, there were more talented players out there, but guys like Chris Bosh, Tayshaun Prince and Deron Williams really made a big difference team wise in my opinion.

If you can't get enough of Coach K, then you should check out Mike Krzyzewski's DVD on Individual Defensive Development. As always, please check out the X's and O's Basketball forum to talk hoops and exchange notes and ideas.

The center player for the Golden State Warriors basketball team will be richer by $ 62 million as he has resigned a six year deal with the Warriors on Monday. He was one of the most prolific players in the NBA last season and he is worth every penny that the Warriors management has signed him for. The management of the Warriors team was really impressed with the amount the progress that their young center has shown in the NBA since his debut in 2004. Andris Biedrins is very happy to have signed this new contract as he feels at home with the Warriors team and management. There is no doubt that many Warrior fans will be booking their tickets on the first day of the ticket sale itself.

You can expect a more elaborate and thorough set of previews in October, but for now, here are my gut feelings about the upcoming NBA season, vomited up in glorious Basketbawful-o-Vision!

Atlanta Hawks: Fact: This team will not be crippled by Josh Childress' defection to Greece. Rather, they will be crippled by the fact that they are still and will always be the Atlanta Hawks. I guess what I'm trying to say is the Hawks are the East's answer to the Clippers.

Boston Celtics: Will Darius Miles be more like the 1985-86 Bill Walton or the 2007-08 Darius Miles? It could be the former but I'm betting on the latter.

Charlotte Bobcats: They are one "unbelievable breakout season" from Adam Morrison away from contending for 40 wins.

Chicago Bulls: Good to see they finally addressed that inside scoring problem. Oh, wait...

Cleveland Cavaliers: I'm sorry, but the arrival of Mo Williams -- a.k.a. "The Second Coming of Larry Hughes" -- changes nothing except who gets to stand around on the perimeter waiting for LeBron to kick the ball back out.

Dallas Mavericks: Quick quiz: Who is more mobile at this point, Jason Kidd or Stephen Hawking? Think about it before answering.

Denver Nuggets: Get ready for this mindbender: The Nuggets could actually be worse on defense this season. And replace "could be" with "most definitely and positively will be."

Detroit Pistons: I'm not sure yet whether they'll lose to Boston or Cleveland in the Eastern Conference Finals. I could be totally wrong about this, though. They might lose to Philly instead.

Golden State Warriors: To quote Clubber Lang: Dead meat.

Houston Rockets: Adding Ron Artest to this team is like watching a Mad Scientist mix random chemicals together. Maybe he'll create Wonderflonium, maybe he'll destroy us all. Could be the former, but I'm betting on the latter. Plus, there's no way Yao is staying healthy all year.

Indiana Pacers: You know how the people of Chernobyl are still suffering horrible aftereffects of the nuclear disaster that happened all the way back in 1986? Well, Ron Artest was the Pacers' Chernobyl disaster, and the effects are still being felt to this day.

Los Angeles Clippers: Suggested team slogan for this year's Clipper team: "We are who you thought we were."

Los Angeles Lakers: They sure look like champions on paper. And I'd like to wipe my you-know-what with that paper.

Memphis Grizzlies: The arrival of Marc Gasol could very well mean an additional five wins, which would actually be a pretty big deal for the Grizzlies.

Miami Heat: Do you suppose Pat Riley would have stepped down -- or up, or whatever you want to call it -- if he'd had any idea how D-Wade was going to play in the Olympics? Yeah, me either. Expect a 25-game improvement and a dramatic first or second round playoff ouster.

Milwaukee Bucks: They have enough talent to trick some people into thinking they'll be halfway decent this season. Don't be one of those people.

Minnesota Timberwolves: Well...at least Antoine Walker's gone.

New Jersey Nets: Following this team will be like watching over a brain-dead relative sucking on life-support.

New Orleans Hornets: The won the James Posey lottery, but something tells me they're not quite ready to win it all yet. Also, they will go into a short slump around Mardi Gras.

New York Knicks: D'Antoni's "fun 'n gun" will be more pleasing to the eye than Isiah's "shamble 'n suck," but with Chris Duhon leading a squad that still includes Zach Randolph and Eddy Curry, I can't see the end result being that much different.

Oklahoma City Thunder: I refuse to acknowledge this team's existence. The "Win" column in the season standings will likely do the same.

Orlando Magic: Good to see they finally addressed their starting guard problems. Oh, wait...

Philadelphia 76ers: For some reason, I'm just not getting as excited about the Sixers as everybody else seems to be. Yeah, they got Elton Brand and all that, but something just feels...wrong...to me.

Phoenix Suns: Can I just say up front that I will personally hunt down and murder -- slowly but brutally -- every blogger and sports writer who uses a headline about this team that includes any variation of the words "sunrise" and/or "sunset." I am so not kidding about this.

Portland Trailblazers: I just get this weird feeling that waiting an extra year for Greg Oden's "rookie" season is going to be like waiting an extra week to open your Christmas presents and finding out all you got was a new winter coat, socks and underwear. Sure, you needed all that stuff, but...

Sacramento Kings: They will give you very few reasons to care.

San Antonio Spurs: Their string of every-other-year championships is over. Trust me on that.

Toronto Raptors: Jermaine O'Neal is not the answer. He just isn't.

Utah Jazz: They will be every bit as good as they were last season...during which they lost in the Western Conference Semifinals. That's right: It's Groundhog Day 2, starring the Utah Jazz!

Washington Wizards: Sure, they resigned Antawn Jamison and Agent Zero, but are they really any better than the teams that lost to the Cavaliers in the playoffs the last three years.

Are You Prepared For Near Basketball

Oakland at KC – 4 (35): This is the Love Canal Game of the Week. There are some other games that are “less than compelling” but this one rates 5 outhouses on the Stench-O-Meter. Watching it is almost certain to cause nausea, sinus congestion and projectile diarrhea. If the football gods want to send fans a signal, this will end up as a scoreless tie at the end of OT. By the way, has anyone seen a TV shot of Al Davis recently; have those folks also seen the movie Weekend at Bernies? Connect the dots folks… Do not wager on this game without a gun to your head. For mythical purposes only, I’ll take the game OVER.
Green Bay – 3 at Detroit (45.5): The Packers do not have a history of playing well in Detroit going all the way back to the Lombardi years. The Lions have to look better than they did last week; if they don’t, the NFL honchos might just try to find a way to relegate them to Division 1-AA and have them play Appalachian State. Green Bay has the better defense here by a wide margin so I’ll take the Packers to win and cover.
Tennessee at Cincy – 1.5 (37): It will be Kerry Collins at the helm for the Titans this week so expect the normal Titans’ conservative offense to be even more controlled. Not to worry because the Bengals do not play the run all that well and the Titans do have competent if not spectacular running backs. Last week, Carson Palmer threw for under 100 yards; Chad Ocho Cinco and TJ Houshmandzadeh caught one ball between them for 22 yards. Even against a good Titans’ defense, that has to get better. I like this game OVER.
Chicago at Carolina – 3.5 (37): This is one of the top games of the week given the outcomes from Week 1. Both teams went on the road last weekend and beat AFC teams that many had playing in the AFC Championship Game. Both teams excelled on defense and both protected their QBs well. This will be another defensive game and in low scoring defensive games, I tend to like to take the points. So, I’ll take the Bears here with the points - - particularly with that half-point on top of a field goal difference.
Buffalo at Jax – 6 (37): With Tom Brady on the shelf, Buffalo now sees themselves as having a shot at the AFC East; the division monster is wounded. This game would be a big win for them. Jax realizes that they didn’t lose ground to the Colts last weekend only because the Colts joined the Jags in spitting the bit. This game would be a big win for the Jags. I like the Bills with the points here.
New Orleans – 1 at Washington (42): I really do not understand this line. The Saints beat a good Tampa team last week while the Redskins looked miserable in their loss to the Giants. I guess the injury to Marques Colston really scares the oddsmakers. Having seen the Redskins’ wide receivers, I’d be more scared that they are healthy enough to take the field. I like this game OVER.
Indy – 2 at Minnesota (43.5): OK, so Peyton Manning actually did show rust from not playing a snap in the exhibition season, but even with all his rust, he is still a better QB than Tarvaris Jackson. The Vikes defense is probably a tad better than the Bears’ defense so does the week’s worth of game time for Manning more than compensate for the stouter defense he will face this week. I think it does; I’ll take the Colts and lay the points.
Giants – 9 at St. Louis (42): The Rams could not have beaten the Peoria Octogenarians last week. They were just plain awful; there is no polite way to put that. The Giants defense was very good last week. Unless both teams reverse the way the showed in week one, this game will be interesting for only the first ten minutes or so. I think the Giants win and cover here comfortably.
SF at Seattle – 7 (38): The Seahawks are the better team here and they always do play better at home than they do on the road. Nonetheless, they sure did leave a steaming dump on the ground in Buffalo last weekend. The Niners did not impress much on opening week either. Purely as a venue call, I’ll take the Seahawks and lay the points – reluctantly.
Atlanta at Tampa Bay – 8.5 (38): The Falcons scored 42 last week by themselves. If they do that this week, they will send this game OVER all by themselves. As I said above, I need to see them do something offensively efficient/effective against a real defense this week to be impressed. Tampa could not score enough to beat the Saints and the Saints’ defense is nothing to write home about. This week Jeff Garcia will not play and Brian Griese will get the start. Blecch! I can’t take Atlanta because I think they are a JV team; I can’t take Tampa and give away that many points; I have no idea if offense or defense will prevail here. So, out comes the Ouija Board and it moves in mysterious ways telling me to play the game OVER.
Miami at Arizona – 6 (39): This game opened as a seven-point spread and has dropped to six just about everywhere. I don’t think the Cardinals are good enough to merit that level of favoritism against another team made up of players who also draw salaries for playing football. I’m not sold on the Dolphins franchise turnaround just yet despite the old “Parcells magic”, but those guys in Miami do draw paychecks. I’ll take the Dolphins with the points.
New England at Jets – 2 (37): When was the last time that the Jets and Pats faced off and the Jets had the clear advantage at the QB position? Was it as far back as the lamentable Tony Eason Era in New England? This will be Brett Favre’s first game at home as a Jet; this will be Matt Cassel’s first NFL start. This game might actually have a bearing on the AFC East race and who gets into the playoffs and who does not. There are plenty of angles to this game that make it interesting. Because I do not believe the Jets defense is a top shelf unit, I will take this game OVER and I will take the Pats with the points. But I like the OVER a lot more than I like the spread bet…
Baltimore at Houston – 4.5 (37.5): Where is the love? Joe Flacco led Baltimore to an opening day win; Matt Schaub looked like the reincarnation of David Carr taking sacks and throwing INTs in the Texans’ opening day thrashing at the hands of the Steelers. I think defense will dominate here so I’ll take the Ravens with the points. By the way, Hurricane Ike has caused this game to be moved back to Monday.
San Diego – 1 at Denver (45.5): Sorry, but I don’t buy into the “Denver as AFC Champion contender” just yet. Those were the sorry-assed Oakland Raiders they beat last week. I agree that San Diego looked less than mediocre in Week 1 and I agree that losing Shawne Merriman to the surgeon’s knife will not help the team. Playing in Denver has been difficult for teams in years past - - although not nearly so much recently - - but I think San Diego is still the more talented team. Denver has an edge on the sidelines but coaches do not block and tackle once the whistle blows. I like the Chargers to win and cover.
Pittsburgh – 6.5 at Cleveland (44.5): I would normally shy away from laying points on the road in a rivalry like this - - particularly this many points. However, the Browns were stupefyingly bad last week against the Cowboys and the Steelers are a good football team. The Steelers have a murderous schedule stretch in front of them and they need to pile up victories now to make it through that rough patch. With trepidation, I will take the Steelers to win and cover here.
Philly at Dallas – 7 (47): This is the best game of the weekend. The … best… Andy Reid is 5-4 against the Cowboys in Dallas since he came to the Eagles in 1999. Both teams played extremely well on opening weekend; Tony Romo and Donovan McNabb combined to throw for 680 yards passing last week; both teams aspire to the NFC East title and a chance to make a run in the playoffs. It may be September, but this game matters and a full TD is an awfully fat line for such a game. I’ll take the Eagles with the points here.
Good luck.

1950 hrs
AND ITS ALL OVER!!!! LNIPE HAVE GOT THE BASKETBALL GOLD. Final score: 68-42 to LNIPE. Valiant effort by the BITSians but in the end, LNIPE were too good. Still, silver is a decent enough return. And with that, BOSM matches are over
1948 hrs
Some wonderful skill from LNIPEThat would be counted as showing off in some places. They are pulling out of sight now. 68-42 to BITS and the errors have crept into the BITSians game.
1947 hrs
Schadenfreude is the best kind of pleasure it seems. Meanwhile, Antonio makes an awesome play. BITS trails 60-40.
1946 hrs
I think the fate of the match was decided the moment LNIPE successfully snuffed out Antonios playmaking threat. He has been absolutely ineffective in the second half. But that doesnt take anything away from an awesome tournament he has had.
1945 hrs
CHAAR CHAWWANI THAALI MEIN!! DY PATIL NAALI MEIN!!! Some unresolved tension I see between the BITSian and the DY Patil camps.
1944 hrs
SABSE PYAARI LADKI KAUN?? KAARI KAARI Is that another nickname for someone we know.
1943 hrs
The game now has the look of a done-and-dusted affair. LNIPE seems quite content to play it around and show off their skills. BITS seem tired. Score: 60-37 in LNIPEs favour.
1942 hrs
Latest score: 58-37 to LNIPE. Surely, 21 points is too huge a margin for BITS to pull back.
1941 hrs
I think we can all agree that LNIPE have just too good a team. But credit to the BITSians. They have been awesome. Lathi sinks another two to make it 53-37. Is he the only one scoring?
1939 hrs
LNIPE is the first to 50. BITS trails 50-33. And there is a free throw coming up. No 4 from LNIPE sinks it. 51-33 to BITS. On the other side of the court, Lathi drives unopposed to the basket to score. 53-35 in LNIPEs favour.
1938 hrs
Manav hits a two. 48-33 to LNIPE.
1937 hrs
All the outsti teams have united against BITSWonder how appreciation turns to bitterness in four daysIs it the fact that BITS has walked away with a handsome haul of medals on the back of brilliant performances by its sportspersons??
1934 hrs
Akshay has come on for Ankeet and not Manav. Score is 47-31 in LNIPEs favour. LNIPEs superior fitness and pace is taking a toll on the BITSians valiant performance. Its going to take a miracle to get back from here. LNIPE no 12 sinks in one of his free throws to make it 48-31.
1933 hrs
Manav has now been replaced by Akshay. Lathi pulls two points back for BITS. 43-31 to LNIPE.
1932 hrs
Another two for LNIPEThey are blowing BITS away. 43-29 to LNIPE. Come on, its time for a timeout.
1930 hrs
The LNIPE defense has succeeded in completely snuffing out Antonios playmaking threat. Mowgli seems to have turned it on. Another two for him. LNIPE leads 41-29.
1929 hrs
Was that an alley hoop attempt? Meanwhile, the chants are getting quite nasty now.
1928 hrs
Mowgli sinks in a three right after the timeout. LNIPE leads 39-29. Can BITS overturn the double-digit lead?
1927 hrs
The crowd is regaining its earlier boisterousness as it bids to coax the last drops of efforts out of the BITSian team. As the teams go out for a timeout, the ref finally nails a jumper after four days worth of effort.
1926 hrs
Lathi with another two. BITS trails 36-29. Devdatta wants the LNIPE players to pass to him on the sideline.
1925 hrs
Mowgli makes it 36-25 for LNIPE now. Lathi makes it 36-27 though. He has scored at least fourteen till now.
1924 hrs
A quick break by LNIPE thwarted by BITS. But a three on the inbound play gives LNIPE a 34-25 lead. BITS needs to go on a roll now.
1923 hrs
Another gem from Crazy Fangirl, This is my last BITSian gameI desperately want it to end with a win.
Curly haired guy (earlier christened ) has been rechristened nowIs that The Jungle Book coming to life?? No.4 Murgi Chor??? What are they talking about?
1921 hrs
Our sideline analyst says, LNIPE are bigger, taller and they make sure the ball just goes into the basket every time they get possession. Isnt that the definition of a good basketball team? But BITS doesnt yet seem too far behind.
1919 hrs
The whistle goesIs it half-time already? Or is it just a timeout? Cant figure out anything in the middle of the raucous chants and cheers of the crowd. Its 31-25 to LNIPE now. Meanwhile, the crowd asks everyone to look at the coach. He doesnt even look good
1918 hrs
Curly hair has just been christened by the BITSian crowd. Boos and jeers try to put him off as he steps up to take two free throws. He misses both as the crowd shouts INQUILAB ZINDABAD!!! Meanwhile, four quick points give LNIPE a 29-23 lead. Seems like they are making their superior skill count. But the BITSian SHAQ, Lathi (PR Sriram to all those from Chennai) has other ideas. A SHAQ-like basket cuts the lead to four.
1917 hrs
Crazy fangirl M, is going even craziers what I call the epitome of sporting passion. Meanwhile Hemu looks spent as he lies on the court, while the teams discuss tactics on the sidelines during a timeout. The crowd is still as involved as they were at the start of the match. This is going to be brilliant!!!
1916 hrs
The elder statesman of the BITSian team sinks a three: Score is 25-23 to LNIPE.
1914 hrs
What trickery from LNIPE!!! Sometimes, you gotta just give up on your allegiances and admire the ability of an opposition player. DOPY is getting an earful from the crowd for using a flash everytime a BITSian player steps up to the free throw line.
1913 hrs
The ferocity of LNIPEs passing is seriously scary. Wonder how many of them would make the national basketball team the way they are now playingTheir reorganized approach is giving all BITSian supporters the shivers. 23-19 to LNIPE.
1912 hrs
Some photog guy is the current villain as he just clicked Antonio with a flash while he was taking a free throw. Hemu answers the LNIPE challenge with a beautiful layup. 21-19 to LNIPE. But they sink one in from the rebound. 23-19 to LNIPE.
1911 hrs
Someone, lets call her M, suddenly got too excited at the sight of LNIPE hassling the BITSian offence. Hema: Now that, is a fangirl for you!!!
Meanwhile, 19-17 to LNIPE.
1910 hrs
Ankit is like a rock in defense. The BITSian defense seems like a rock today in turn. 3 pointer by LNIPE makes the scores level at 17.
1908 hrs
LNIPE is turning on the heat now. Brilliant plays. Score: 17-14 to BITS.
1906 hrs
Nice passing move by LNIPE makes it 17-12. The match is developing nicely. No 10, Ankit seems slightly off his shooting game today. But he is picking up all the rebounds in defense. Meanwhile, brilliant defensive block by the LNIPE player, tapping the ball away just as Antonio was going to cap his full flight with a layup.
1904 hrs
Two threes taken by BITS till now. And another three-pointer gives BITS a 17-12 lead. The crowd says, JEETEGA BHAI JEETEGA !!! BITS PILANI JEETEGA!!! and LAO RE LAO!! CURRY KO LAO! Is that a codeword? Attempts at a Mexican wave follow. And another, much better one. In fact, the wave went all around the court. It seems like BITSians have left it to the last day to show the outstis what home support is! But what a support this is!!!
1902 hrs
I have never seen a more boisterous crowd at the basketball court in the three BOSMs I have seen. The team, the crowd are all united by a single purpose the sight and feel of gold. A successful free throw by BITS makes the score 12-10. PR gives BITS a 4-point lead with one of his trademark drives to the basket. He has already scored 6 points already.
1900 hrs
Two free throws to BITS. Antonio steps up. Crazy fan girl says, Now you know why I like him so much. The drive earns him two free throws but he misses both. Meanwhile, BITS seems to be up for it from the start. Good steal by LNIPE. Two and a foul. 12-9 is the score in BITS favour.
1859 hrs
Nothing seems to be going in for LNIPE at the moment. A combination of brilliant defence and a hostile crowd against LNIPE is working in their favour. Meanwhile, a brilliant drive and basket by Lathi. Score: 12-7 to BITS.
1858 hrs
The pressure seems to be getting to LNIPE as they have begun missing shots they were making earlier. The vocal crowd seems to have got to them. Meanwhile, Hemu scores to give BITS a 10-6 lead. Brilliant assist by Antonio.
1856 hrs
Timeout. The BITSian boys have kept up and even bettered LNIPE efforts in the early running. Lets hope this continues. Chants fill up the air. I wouldnt want to be a LNIPE supporter today at the Basketball court. It must be intimidating for their players.
1854 hrs
LNIPE won the girls basketball gold, so the guys are trying to make it a double. A players from LNIPE just got a warning from the ref for excessive dissent. LNIPE seems to be the better team just at the moment but BITSians are playing with passion and have a very boisterous home crowd acting as the sixth man. Manav scores and the crowd goes into a frenzy. The three makes it 8-6 to BITS.
1852 hrs
LNIPE v/s BITS, the Basketball match is on. The stands are packed to the rafters and the atmosphere is even more electrifying than last time. Current score: 6-5. LNIPE leads.

But this has to be a disappointing loss for the Sky.

The Sky had already beaten the Liberty once since the Olympic break. One would think Candice Dupree and Sylvia Fowles would have a strong game against the depleted front court of the Liberty. And although the game doesn't mean very much for the playoffs, it was an opportunity to win a series against a playoff team, which could be a nice confidence boost for next season.

But unfortunately, things fell apart during a 14-2 run at the end of the third quarter when the Liberty took control of the game. And unlike their 4th quarter collapse against the Storm, it wasn't the bench that let the game slip away. It was mostly starters. So what, if anything, does this say about the Sky for next season?

Still having problems in the half court

The momentum in the game shifted with about four minutes left in the third once the Liberty switched to zone and Shameeka Christon and Leilani Mitchell started wreaking havoc on the perimeter causing three straight turnovers.

But the primary reason for the shift was something that has been a problem for the Sky all season -- they have these dry spells, as the commentators said coach Steven Key describes them. But this wasn't just one of their dry shooting spells...the Sky just seemed to stop moving. And when you stop moving against a zone, it becomes much easier to defend because one defender is able to guard 2 players in an area without moving. The result is frustration and then confusion.

Some of the stagnation comes when Fowles is playing on the high post. She doesn't yet look comfortable making decisions in their offense and it just results in turnovers. One of the turnovers came on an attempt to make an entry pass to Fowles that Fowles just didn't step to.

But the main reason is that when the Sky face a zone and cannot get penetration from their guards, it becomes obvious that they don't yet have a well-defined post offense despite having one of the best young post combinations in the league. So rather than moving the ball and trying to find spaces in the zone to get the ball to their post players, they end up holding the ball around the perimeter and making predictable passes. The Sky somehow need to find an identity beyond the perimeter.

Still a perimeter oriented team

The Sky's brief spurt in the fourth quarter with about 3:30 left starting with Armintie Price's drive and missed free throw which was rebounded by Jia Perkins exemplified their strength this season. They are at their best when they get into that dribble drive set, get players moving toward the basket, and score in transition.

The problem is that when they get so focused on the perimeter game, their dynamic duo in the post becomes an afterthought...almost glorified rebounders rather than offensive threats. And yet we know what Dupree and Fowles can do -- Fowles has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season and Dupree has been an all-star. Right now, their strengths just don't appear to be well integrated into their offense.

When a post player disappears as Fowles did in the fourth quarter, it's not really her fault. Sometimes, it's a matter of just not getting the ball. Fowles hardly touched the ball in scoring position at all in the fourth quarter. Ditto for Dupree. And it seems to be something they've struggled with all season -- finding a way to consistently feed the post rather than just waiting for post players to get loose balls or offensive rebounds.

All the pieces are there, it's just a matter of putting it all together

You have to figure that in the off-season, the Sky will put in more post plays and perhaps retool the roster to find players who can distribute the ball to post players more effectively. But with a lottery pick and a talented roster that has four threats offensively and some decent defensive players in Perkins and Fowles, they don't need to change a whole lot. They just need time to bring it all together.

Some Sky fans are calling for Steven Key to be fired, but that might be unfair after one season with a young team. It takes time to put Fowles' injury and absence during the Olympic break have to be taken into account when evaluating the Sky's season.

We also don't really know what's going on behind the scenes -- are the plays in place but the players not executing or are the players not executing because the plays aren't in place? Either way, time could be the primary remedy for the Sky's struggles.

I still believe the Sky have a bright future. There are plenty of examples in sports where extremely talented young teams take a few years to put it all together...and some never do before making major changes. But this team has at least four positions in their starting lineup pretty well set and just needs to add to the bench so they can give the starters a rest.

And once they fill out their roster, they can become much more dangerous. Missing the playoffs just gives them a chance to add more talent through the draft lottery and focus on their growth for the future. And perhaps it will make them more hungry for next year.

With so many drills and different ways to practice to improve your game, you could very easily get confused and frustrated trying to compile a perfect practice plan. Some of the main components I have always stressed with all my private basketball clients, whether they are beginners or a NBA Veteran, is to try and train smarter and just harder.
A major component you have to consider when trying to design a Basketball Improvement system is to leverage your time wisely and work on the areas that are most important to you and your game. To use an example, if you are a point guard, your main job is to be able to handle the rock under control and pressure, control the pace of the game, make sure all your teammates are doing their job correctly and be your coaches on the court general.
Why it would be great if you were a great rebounder, it is not something that you should spend alot of time practicing. You should focus the majority of your time practicing and improving the areas that are most required. Try not to get caught up in trying to work on every aspect of basketball, there just is not enough time to work on every thing in one practice.
I have outlined a Practice plan that I use to structure all of my Pro Clients workouts, they are very effective and time efficient. The practice will last approximately 1 hour and will begin with a Sports Warm-Up. Sports Warm Up ( 15 minutes) It is very essential you participate in an active warm up that will prepare you for a vigorous work out ahead. The days of static stretching as a team are long over, due to the fact that you want to prepare your self for moving, running, and explosive burst, you want to prepare your body to handle certain movements and game situations. I normally have all my players run 4 to 5 times around the court at about 50%, and then follow that up with 4 half court layups from both the right and left side. Then, we perform 3 full court layups on each side, right and left. Then we move onto two ball dribbling, full court and back 3 times, two ball alternating dribbling full court and back, 3 times, and then finish with a couple of dynamic warm up stretches that improve the mobility, stability, and flexibility of certain muscle groups.
Basketball conditioning ( 10 minutes)
I have always like jumping right into some conditioning drills as my players perform better when we get conditioning done at the beginning of practice. Many practices, the exercise or drills will change and vary, but the principles remain the same. I usually compile 6 conditioning drills that we will perform only once, but at 100% intensity. I will then give them a 30-45 second break and then move onto the next conditioning drill. We do not perform the drills for certain amount of reps, but rather for a duration of time. Usually lasting 30-45 seconds. Hers is a sample Conditioning workout:
Exercise # 1 suicide ( 30 seconds)
Rest(45seconds)
Exercise # 2 ( machine guns while dribbling a basketball) 30 seconds
Rest (45 seconds)
Exercise # 3 Basketball Pushups with a basketball( 20 seconds on each side)
Rest(45 seconds)
Exercise #4 Full court Defensive slides( 35 seconds)
Rest ( 45 seconds)
Exercise # 5 Net or rim touches ( 30 seconds)
Rest ( 45 Seconds)
Exercise # 6 Push Up Holds ( 45 seconds)
Rest Until 10 minutes is up
As you can see, if you structure your workouts and practices correctly, you can get a very effective practice in a short period of time. The next 10 minutes will solely focus on shooting. I have a simple rule when trying to improve your shooting. Think of the 5 most common shots and area that you are most likely to shoot in a game and work on those 5 shots the most. It is almost a waste of time if you are a center trying to improve your 3 point shooting. Once you have figured out your 5 most common shots, spend 2 minutes each working on them and getting up as many shots as you can in those 2 minutes from those specific spots. You will be surprised when you start working on only a couple of shoots how much more you will improve compared to trying to shoot from every where. After you finish working on your shooting, you will then dedicate the next 10 minutes on ball handling. There are millions of drills that will improve your ball handling skills and you can pick which ever ones you like, but follow these rules when you do so.
1. Try not to ever look down at the ball.
2. Try your hardest not to mess up.
3. Involve as much running and movement as you can.
4.When you have mastered a drill, do not continue to do the same drill,
move on to a more challenging drill.
5. Try to incorporate multitasking drills as much as possible, like 2 ball dribbling,
the more you can do at the same time the better.
Follow those rules and you will see a dramatic improvement in your over all game.
Now that you have gotten past those stations, it is time now to move on to the most important aspect of the practice. The last 15 minutes will solely be committed to working on your niche, the most important component of your game.
What Is Your Niche?
This is by far the most over looked aspect in basketball. A niche is what you do best, it is the one thing that you do great, the thing that separates you form the baller next to you. The One thing you can provide the team, and what the coach can count on you for.Without a Niche, you have no identity on the court. If you look at all the Kings in the NBA, you will easily discover their Niche.
Steve Nash- passing
Ben Wallace- Rebounding
Dwayne Wade- attacking the basket
Mike Miller- Shooting
Kobe - Scoring
And the list goes on.
Spend the last 15 minutes working and mastering your niche. Whatever it is, whether it be shooting, rebounding, ball handling, defense, scoring, driving to the basket, 3 point shooting, ect Work on mastering and improving it. I guarantee you that if you take this outline and use it to structure your workouts and practices, you will have more improvement in a couple of weeks then you probably have had your whole career. Improving your game is easy when you do it the right way.
