I've just been doing a little looking at the whole notion of stacking off preflop and I've concluded that I'm not doing enough.

I've been stacking off with AA, KK in any situation, AK where I'm the one to put in the fourth bet and sometimes QQ or JJ when the villain three bets a bunch.

I just convinced myself that's too tight if we assume 100 big blind stacks.

A three bet percentage of 5% translates to 99+, AJs+, KQs, AKo according to pokerstove. Against this range, QQ has 57.5% equity and JJ has 49.5% equity. AK has 47% equity.

If they never get it all in with less than KK+, AKs, AKo that's only 2% of hands and QQ and JJ both have about 40% equity and AK has a little less.

So if you raise to 4x and they raise to 12x and you put in the fourth bet to say 30 and they push you're calling 70 to win 200. You're going to be behind a lot but you only need 35% equity to break even and everything JJ+, AKs, AKo has that. And that's assuming they don't get it in with less than AK, KK when the reality is that many people get it in with less than that.

I have a question though...in HEM, how is the four bet stat calculated? Over in the reports section, I see a four bet range and a raise % v three bets. What's the difference? And over in the HUD manager I just see Four Bet. What's what.

"The collapse of emerging market economies will shake investors to the core. The great unwind has only just begun," said Albert Edwards, the bank's global strategist.

"The big surprise in store is what could happen in China. The potential for a deep recession in the US is already on the radar screen, but people will be stunned if China's economy contracts, as I believe it will. Investors could be massively caught out," he said.

"The consensus has a touching belief that emerging markets will prove resilient despite a deep downturn in developed economies. My view is that an outright contraction in global GDP is entirely possible next year."

"The emerging market boom is totally tied up with a decade of ballooning current account deficits in the US. Put that into reverse and you'll be surprised what pops out of the woodwork."

Mr Edwards said the vast accumulation of foreign exchange reserves led by China with $1.8 trillion had provided the "rocket fuel" of liquidity for frontier markets. This virtuous circle has now turned vicious as America tightens its belt. Countries in Asia and Latin America are intervening to prop up their currencies, causing reserves to fall.

"We could see monthly trade surpluses in the US within a year. The emerging market liquidity squeeze will intensify ferociously, and assets linked to the region will become toxic waste. That includes previously resilient banks such as HSBC, Standard Chartered and Banco Santander," he said.

The gloomy forecast comes as Fitch Ratings warns of mounting distress for banks in China, where debt has been shunted off books to circumvent state limits on credit growth.
The pattern looks eerily like the use of "conduits" by Western banks at the height of the credit bubble.

The agency's China team, Charlene Chu and Chunling Wen, said banks had used an "underground market" on a large scale to stoke up lending. "These types of credit and/or institutions fall outside the traditional structures of financial supervision, exposing banks to a growing amount of risk that is for the most part hidden By getting a portion of their credit off books, Chinese banks are able to comply with official loan quotas while in practice exceeding them," he said.

Under the mechanism, the loans are packaged into wealth products and sold to investors searching for bumper yields. The parallel with the US sub-prime debacle is striking, although Fitch avoids an explicit parallel.

Moreover, the banks issue "entrusted loans" in which they act as piggy-in-the-middle between two sets of clients, keeping the credits of the portfolio sheet. These loans have reached 1.5 trillion yuan ($220bn).

Even without such off-books liabilities, the banks are facing a crunch as the economy slows hard and the property market stalls. Shenzen house prices are already down 30pc.

"The Chinese banking system is nearing the point at which it can no longer sustain additional large net withdrawals of liquidity without generating further strains on banks' ability to lend," it said.

Morgan Stanley said this month that China's housing market was heading for a "melt-down". Data is patchy and rarely reliable, but it is clear that home sales in Beijing, Shanghai and other Eastern cities have fallen drastically over the summer.

Wow, this new semester is taxing me mightily with work.

I've got tons of papers to grade and I am almost finished with my latest novel, so instead of writing for my usual one hour a day, I have been writing 3 or 4, which leaves me little or no time to blog.

Sorry about that, guys.

Instead of answering emails this time, I am going to post a few weird dreams I have had and maybe you can tell me what they mean . . . maybe they represent winning lotto numbers or something.

When I finish the new book (in the next few days), I will be able to start blogging again with regularity.


Dreams

1. I needed money to gamble and my account only had $200 in it, so I went to my youngest son, age 5 or 6 it looked like, and asked him for $400.

He said, "Okay, papa," and hopped on his bike and came back with $400.

When I saw the money, I decided to press my luck and said, "Really, son, I need another $1000."

He said, "Okay, papa," and hopped on his bike and came back with $1000.

When I saw this, I said, "Son, I really need $10,000 . . . is that okay?"

The 5-year old (who in real life is 14) said, "Okay, papa," and hopped on his bike and came back with a bag full of money. $10,000!

So I put the money in my wallet and noticing that he disapeared to use the bathroom, I snuck into his bedroom and took out his bank pass book (which no one uses these days). To my astonishment, his balance read, $300,000,000! My 5-year old was a millionaire.

Now I became very exited.

When he came out of the bathroom, I said to him, "Really, son, I need $100,000."

He said, "Okay, papa," and when he came back from the bank this time, I put the hundred grand in my wallet and headed for my car to go to the casino and gamble.

My wife stopped me at the door.

She said, "Do you not even want to know where he got the money from?"

I hadn't thought about that. "Where?" I said.

She said, "From his father."

"But I am his father."

She said, "No! Tommy is his father, and you don't even care!"

She stormed off loudly weeping and shedding big tears, and I shrugged and headed for my car. Whoever Tommy was, I would deal with that when I came back from the casino. For now it was time to gamble.

2. My father and I were on an island. I think we were stranded there. I was sooooo hungry. Somehow it came to my attention that my father was not as hungry as I was. Somehow I noticed that he was gaining weight despite being stranded on the island along with me. I begged him to tell me his secret.

He refused at first, but finally broke down and told me.

He said, "I learned this trick from years of sailing on the high seas as a merchant marine. Sometimes on the ship, we run out of food for weeks. When there is no other food, we prepare and eat our feces. But you have to do it the right way. Here, let me show you."

He took me to a tree, reached up into its leafy branches, and pulled down a square, brown cake of his feces that had been hidden up there. He handed it to me. It didn't smell so bad, but it felt heavy and solid like a rock in my hands.

"Eat up," he said. "It's not as bad as it looks."

I took a bite. It was nasty. Now inside my mouth felt like it was full of spiderwebs. And there was something crunchy in my mouth, too.

When I looked down at the cake of my father's feces, it was oozing bloody human fingers. I tried to spit it out, but the stuff was sticking to the inside of my mouth. My mouth was oozing blood.

3. I had a dream about my mother, who passed recently, and I don't remember whether she was actually in the dream or whether she was just a ghostlike voice, but she ordered me to read her journal out loud. So I read it out loud. I don't remember what I read, but she shouted very angrily, "No, don't read it in order. Read it backwards in the mirror."

I took it to the mirror and read it out loud backwards.

It read, "Hop home on your one foot, demon day. Hop home on your one foot, demon day."

I said, "Mommy, what does it mean?"

These were the words to a silly tune she used to sing to us, playfully teasing us (her sons), whenever we lost to her at checkers or some other game. I never understood these words, though as a child I used to squeal with delight when she sang them.

"What does it mean?" I pleaded.

She said, "Look in the mirror again."

I looked in the mirror again.

The mirror was cracked.


4. My daughter was in the backyard with my mother-in-law. My daughter, who is now 18, was a toddler of maybe 2 or 3 in the dream. She was wearing a little blue jeans overall dress set and a deep red shirt underneath. My daughter was lying on her back, and my mother-in-law Was trying to teach her how to pee on the grass. I heard my daughter crying pitifully and my mother-in-law shouting commands like "Shame on you," "Do it right now," "You're a big girl now, you should be able to do this."

When I looked between my daughter's legs, she had a big, black, bushy vagina, like an adult woman's vagina, and instead of urine coming out of her, she was dripping white semen.

My first impulse was to run and help her, but I slunk away in shame, hiding my eyes from her nakedness.

When I was safely inside the house, I screamed, "Leave her alone! Leave her alone!"

I listened with all my might, but I didn't hear any sounds coming from outside.

I woke up sobbing and shivering.

5. This one is the most recent. Last night I dreamt I was walking across a mattress upon which slept a large black jungle cat--a panther or something. A voice told me, "Be careful," but too late--I shook the mattress and the large predator awoke and pounced on me. He bit me hard on the hand, and having no other way to fight him, I bit him hard on the head. I don't know how I did it, but I put his entire head into my mouth and bit it, as though he were no bigger than a house cat.

Then I awoke.

I hate players who take it upon themselves to denote every dumb play at the poker table:
“Terrible play… donk… bad bluff… donk… stupid… donk”
First of all, get a new word. At this point, donk is a donkish term for bad play. Secondly, if there were no “donks” out there making stupid moves then the only way that any one would ever make money would be through being on the right side of cold decks. So don’t go hating on bad players because if it wasn’t for them, then your genius play would just be run-of-the-mill crap gambling gambling. It is in part because of the donkeys that poker is as profitable as it is.
Frankly, I’m sick and tired of people scaring perfectly bad players away and then being forced myself to sit in the brewing stew of super-tight-know-it-all-pot-odds-shackled players. Life is too short to spend your time with judgmental tightwads.
So I’ve got a plan. It’s a small plan and kind of trivial, but it’s a start.
In the spirit of the many great acronyms that the internet has given birth to: lol, lmao, gg, gl, own, pwn, etc, I give you dBAD (pronounced dee – bad) which stands for “don’t be a douchebag.”
Say you are at a table and a guy calls two other all-ins holding pocket fives. Now the guy with the fives is obviously way behind and making a mathematically unsound decision – to say the least – when a six miraculously hits the turn, giving the idiot the winning Number of the Beast.
One guy who lost holding QQ forces out “nh” while two other uninvolved players limit their chat to “wow.” And then comes the inevitable attack from a guy who had nothing to do with the hand itself but cannot abide such behavior at the poker table… his poker table:
“For making a call like that you sure have a lot to learn about poker.” As true as that may be, what good does it do anyone to say that?
So what do you do?
“dBAD”
And even though that guy won’t get it the first time, our movement will grow. Like a revolution, dBAD will grow upon the fingertips of even-tempered poker players everywhere, shutting down the wannabe Matusows and Tony Gs with an acronym of defensive aggression and sleek musicality (seriously, doesn’t dee bad just sound cool?)
So if you are sick of whiny know-it-alls spewing their hateful advice wherever and whenever bad luck strikes at the poker table, join me in proclaiming loudly and in 3/4s caps lock glory:
dBAD.

Indiana Jones may have sought the Crystal Skull, but for college football teams, the real quest is for the Crystal Trophy, which began Sept. 29.

To celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release of Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull on Oct. 14, ESPN, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Paramount Home Entertainment have created a contest that brings together those two coveted crystal treasures.

Beginning Sept. 29, fans can go to ESPN.com and search for keyword Indiana Jones in order to view videos of seven university marching bands, representing some of the best college football programs in the country. Each performs the iconic Indiana Jones theme, The Raiders March by John Williams. The band with the best performance, as determined by online fan voting, will receive $25k for their schools band program, from Lucasfilm Ltd and Paramount Home Entertainment.

We attended the BYU vs. TCU volleyball game today. Before the game we went to eat at our usual spot Potbelly, it is a sandwich shop. The Potbellys that we eat at, is located on the TCU campus, so each time we go to eat there we are wearing our Cougar apparel. We always get a few looks from the horn frog fans, but we love it because we are PROUD BYU fans!

The TCU campus was very busy today, so parking was a pain we ended up parking a LONG, LONG, LONG ways from where the game was being played. But we did get some much needed walking exercise.

When we arrived at the game Brinlee, was not very happy being in such a loud environment. Anytime they would blow a wistle, cheer, or play music she would start to shake and cry. Ken stood on the side with her quite a while, Ken thought Brinlee, was going to have a heart attack because her heart was racing so fast because she was so frightened. After the first two games she started to calm down. So we went and sat in the bleacher for the third game.

BYU lost 3-0!!!! TCU better watch out because the BYU football team will be in town on October 16! The Albright family will be ready to once again sing RISE AND SHOUT THE COUGARS ARE OUT!! Go Cougars.
