Our flight to Memphis was fine, but of course, a mechanical delay slowed our progress. Northwest kept delaying the flight as they were trying to fix the A/C. Finally, after 3 hours, they cancelled the flight. We weren't fast enough to get in line for the 4 or 5 seats they had left on the nonstop to Charleston that evening. Our options were to overnight in Memphis, or fly to Detroit and then to Charleston, or fly to Columbia, SC, which is approx 1 1/2 hours from Charleston. Since our friend from AZ had now landed before us, she picked up the rental car, and drove to Columbia to meet us. We arrived at our hotel just after midnight.
It is so important these days to allow extra time to arrive at your destination and to be flexible. And why it is so important to work with a travel agent because they can be a big help in situations like these. Had we needed to be somewhere that evening, we would have been out of luck. I think these situations are only going to be more frequent.
We stayed at the Springhill Suites It was a clean hotel with a decent continental breakfast included. The room had 2 beds, sofa and work desk. Staff was always helpful. There was a pool but we didn't use it. It was a short 10 minute drive to downtown Charleston.
We visited the Charleston Place Hotel, an Orient Express property. While no rooms were available to view, we did have afternoon tea there. We only made our reservations that morning and were able to get in. The cost was approx $25 per person. The tea and food were wonderful and I would highly recommend that experience.
We decided to walk to the park at the end of the island, and wondered why everything was so deserted. We knew it was going to rain, but nobody told us when it rains in Charleston, it pours! We were stuck under a canopy in the park with about 20 other people, but not much shelter, for over an hour and the rain still hadn't let up. As we walked back to our car, drenched, the lower streets of Charleston temporarily flooded, which is a somewhat common occurrence when it rains heavily there.
We visited Midleton Place Plantation, just 25 minutes from Charleston. Amazing history there and beautiful property. We took a carriage ride through the city which gave lots of history info. We visited Fort Sumter, the birthplace of the Civil War. Our last afternoon was spent at the lovely beach area, Isle of Palms, again approx 25 minutes from Charleston. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent.
We wanted to try as much southern food as we could, so had a to-die-for oyster stew (I had two bowls of it)! at S.N.O.B restaurant. We had jambalaya, shrimp and grits, and fried green tomatoes at Poogan's Porch. And we got to cross off one of the things from "1000 Places to see before you Die" list as we visited Magnolia's restaurant. We dined on buttermilk fried chicken, biscuits and gravy and collard greens, as well as some awesome crab cakes. Not a low cholesterol destination by any means!!! There are many, many great restaurants and nightclubs all within the downtown area. I would recommend staying at a downtown hotel so you don't have to drive after a night of drinking. While we would have preferred to stay downtown, our budgets did not allow it this time around.

In the last week, I became suddenly intrigued with the idea of purchasing a Wii system and a Wii Fit balance board. I have several friends who have them and love them, and I am sometimes prone to the herd mentality that if everyone else either has or wants to have a particularly trendy item, then I should have it or want it too. Unfortunately, I developed this sudden interest at a time when it is not only difficult to find a place selling the Wii consoles at all, but inordinately difficult to find anyone selling the Wii Fit balance boards. It is so inordinately difficult that people are selling new Wii Fits on Ebay for $150 and up, even though it retails for $89.99. Talk about your black market!

On Sunday, I decided I would take a trip to the Edgewood shopping center and try my luck with all 3 stores there that might have a Wii. First I went to Gamestop, who told me they had none but they had heard Target had a few. Then I went to Target, who had none but gave me a printout of other stores in Atlanta that might have one. Then I went to Best Buy, and met a salesman who appeared to have a little crush on me. He told me that there were 3 Wii's behind their counter, and went to ask if he was allowed to sell one to me. Two different people told him that they were on reserve, but he called up his manager on walkie-talkie and got permission to sell me one of the three. I may have had to flirt shamelessly to accomplish this feat. After getting permission to buy the console, and then getting all the accessories and extras one needs (extra controller, nunchuk, wheel, charge station, and a game), it came to the grand total of $448.12. Ouch.

Not having the Wii Fit yet but still eager to try this sucker out, I brought it home and was able to hook everything up in under 10 minutes. I tried the games that came with the console, but found I was horrible at tennis and passable at bowling. Then I opened the game I had purchased, the newest version of old Nintendo standby Metroid. I loved Metroid as a kid on my NES system, but this new version is so different that I find it incomprehensible. Honestly, I will probably sell this game to someone on Ebay and get something else, because after three attempts I still cannot figure out a goddamned thing. But, later on that night, I managed to rope someone into coming to try the thing out and we had a blast competing in all of the various Wii Sports games. We even beat the shit out of each other in boxing! (I can't believe he hit a girl.)

Now, I am eagerly searching the internets for a place that has Wii Fit in stock. I am also looking for Mario Kart since Jen has been pushing so hard for the rest of us local owners of Wii to get hooked up so we can all play. I was going to wait until next month to buy Rock Band for the Wii, but now I hear that Rock Band 2 is coming out later this year with more stuff so I might as well wait for that.

I have not played video games at all since I became a teenager, so it is strange to me that I have now suddenly plunked down such a big chunk of change on a video game system. But then I feel the ache of the muscles in my right arm and shoulder from playing Wii tennis and bowling, and realize that I used it already for hours on Sunday and yesterday, and will hopefully use the Wii Fit to actually get active at home again in a way less prone to blisters and shin splints than my treadmill. Hey, at least it will be a cheaper way to kill the time than playing online poker.

Many believe Kerns will make an immediate impact as a change of pace to Noel Devine. At 6 and 225 pounds, Kerns may provide the thunder to Devines lightning so to speak. Kerns still has to pass through the NCAA Clearinghouse and any college football fan knows that can be an adventure, but hopefully that will be ironed out before training camp begins August 1.
A couple players were not as fortunate. The defensive line is taking a major hit as junior college transfer Tevita Finau appears to be an academic casualty and will have another year of JC work. Finau apparently still has a chance to finish up summer school and maybe make it to Morgantown by August 1, but the outlook is bleak. Two other signees, offensive lineman Benji Kemoeatu and cornerback Jerome Swinton, will also not qualify academically and will have to find another route, as Big East schools are no longer allowed to admit non-qualifiers.

1. Fighting the mind
The most typical example of fighting the mind is when we are afraid. Courage is actually a win against fear - and that's when we fight our mind. Our mind is telling us something and we don't do it. There is some other internal or external motivation that moves us through the fear.
Fighting the fear can result in a very surprising outcome if we persist. When we are in a fearful situation and we overcome fear, we gain some confidence. When we are confronted with that or a similar event later, we overcome that fear more easily. We feel that the fear is smaller. Eventually we win the internal battle and the fear does not appear anymore. We don't need to spend our nervous energy to overcome the fear, so then we can be much more effective in other mental activities at that moment.
2. Tricking the mind
This concept is the main idea in the Inner Game of Tennis book. We trick the mind by focusing it on something relevant and something interesting - seeing how the ball is spinning or watching the flight path of the ball and things like that.
We are playing a game with our mind and even though we know that we'll trick the mind and the mind knows it, it still falls for the trick. Not always but we get better with practice.
3. Listening to your mind
When we develop good awareness of our thinking, we choose what we'll believe. We choose whether some thoughts are important or not. Again, this is not some Indian mystical ability; we do this all the time.
No? Have you ever thought about hitting someone and you didn't? Or some guy on the street drove in front of you and you wanted to crash in his car? And you didn't? You chose not to follow the thoughts! You saw how useless and damaging would that be in the long term.
That's exactly what we need to do in tennis. Hitting a winner from 3 meters behind the baseline on the run is not a thought to follow. If just after a bad line call a thought like this appears: ?Everything is against me; I cannot possibly win this?, then this is not a good thought to follow!
4. Ignoring the mind - the door to the zone
This is an even higher ability to have than just listening and selecting the thoughts. When you ignore the mind it feels as if you're watching the TV and the radio is on. You are so focused on the TV show, that you don't hear the radio. But it's playing all right.
And the same can be done with our minds. We can get so focused on the tennis game that we don't even hear and realize what the mind is talking about.
5. Shutting the mind off - entering the zone
This is the ultimate ability and it enables the player to enter the zone. Shutting the mind off happens when you have been ignoring the mind for a long time. Some thoughts come but you simply don't care and you just keep playing. Every time a thought appears you just let it pass.
What happens after a while (and it is my own experience) is that the mind seems to get offended. Since we don't notice the mind's chatting, it is so upset that it refuses to talk to us anymore. Suddenly there is silence in the mind.
And you can just play. There is no past or future. They exist only in the mind. What is is now.
So this is a progression in taming the mind. Sometimes it gets a little rough, but eventually the mind seems to give up especially when we don't care. This Notification is being issued only for those eligible candidates (whose names are appeared in the Final Merit of MBA/MMS/ PGDBM/ PGDBA published on 25th June 2008 on http //www.dte orq.in/mba) to be admitted to seats available for respective CAP rounds of admission in First Year of Post Graduate Degree courses in MBA/MMS/ PGDBM/PGDBA in the institutes participating in the CAP for the academic year 2008-09.
